So found out one of my co-workers got a new toy. An "old black T-Bird" is how it was described to me. Told me where it was parked outside and I decided to take a look on my way out just now. Said I'd know it when I saw it. I was picturing a 80's-90's Turbo or Super Coupe....but not this. I sure DID see it. NICE TOY. Thought you all might like to see it too. That's a HECK of a commuter car! -Mike
Little old lady at church has one of those, only in red. Told me she and her now deseased husband bought it slightly used in 1958 (?). Looks like brand new, just the same as this black beauty. I'd love to drive one of these with the top down - and I don't like converts.
Beautiful car! Questions.......is that a 56 or a 57? Is it maybe a Minter restoration? Options? The 55 first year Birds didn't have the portholes in the top although owners frequently added them so I hear.
Yeah. They make the bird appear to have died. Those are vaccuum-powered wipers and will stay in that position, if you shut down the engine without first shutting down the wipers. Later T-Birds had storage tanks which eliminated spread-eagle shutdowns and would keep the wipers going while overtaking the vehicle in front of you. Since the thread author is a wagon man, maybe he could talk the T-Bird owner into making a few minor corrections:
