It looks good but I'm not sure it's worth that much.

This is what I fail to understand about old cars. This ’77 Impala isn’t worth $3000, but is probably totally rust free, drives good, and in general good condition. If sold to the right person, could be preserved that way for decades to come. Yes, it is a plain-jane stripped down model, but even so they are not easy to find in this condition.

Why is any old “woodie” worth a minimum of $30-40K even when they are piles that will never stand a snowballs chance in hell of ever being restored properly or ever seeing the road again? I just don’t get it or understand (at all) the mentality of the mainstream of car collectors. Seems like “persona” or “perception” of a model of car being “cool” makes much more of a difference rather than the actual old car one is looking at being a worthwhile one or not. Is my thinking wrong, or have I stumbled on to something?

I just saw one of these in the local newspaper, well, I should say every person who knows me pointed it out to me because it was a wagon. And I just saw another one in town too, these 77 Impala Wagons seem to be coming out of the woodwork lately!

That's a NICE wagon!!! I, myself, am one who always looks for all the toys, but there's definitely something to be said for simplicity...and this car is in great shape and completely left stock. I always have a soft spot for that.

As far as it's value...it's true, a 77 Impala isn't valued at $3,000 generally, but to someone who can truly appreciate the car, it very well could be. Looking around at dealers, I guess you'll probably find that $3,000 is what you'd pay for basic transportation... and this Impala is basic transportation...no frills (not a bad thing, mind you). This one happens to be older, but obviously well-maintained...probably more so than many of the other $3,000 cars you'll find around.

If this car is what you're looking for, then the question isn't as much whether the general public feels it's worth $3,000...the appropriate question is whether it's worth $3,000 to you. If so, go for it! (y)

That sure is a clean example of a Impala wagon. It looks like the pictures where taken in the summer, so hes been sitting on it for a bit. You have a lot on your side, people now are not buying "toys" or anything that isnt truly needed. So this dealer might be willing to deal if you play your cards right....

To me it would be worth $3k. Especially if it runs as well as it looks. I'd seriously consider it at that price.

    It's in my favorite color.

It's a buyer's market. Low-ball him, if he wants it gone that bad, he'll probably bite. If not he may counter-offer you or tell him he's firm on the price. Then, it's a question of how bad you want it.

It's a beaut, just missing some woodgrain :)

I personally think the price is too high for a late 70's car....if it was a 60's maybe at that price....but then I'm not a chevy or ford guy so I don't know the pricing. IF it was a mopar I'd say too high for such a stripper..but if it's 100% rust free then that's forth a bit more to me....I'd say $1500 max....but that's me

Hmm seen fully loaded late squarebacks (77-90 GM wagons) especially Buicks go for around 2000 - 3000 when they are in very good condition.

Now you can't really know if this wagon is really that good or not, the pics are two small. Sure it will not be a wreck but it might just a 20footer and then it's not worth that kind of money.

One thing to keep in mind is that the 77-79 have a different body than the 80-90 one hence it can pure h... to get parts.

    Cheers Dyna

Not that it means a whole hill of beans, but here is what NADA Classic Cars lists as the value for a '77 Impala wagon:

Original MSRP: $5,289 Low Retail Average Retail ValueHigh Retail $3,525 $6,875 $12,750 Options Factory Air Conditioning 10%10%10% TOTAL PRICE (Low) $3,878, (Average) $7,563 (High)$14,025

Just using this as a guideline, the asking price seems fair considering the car would likely be (although sight unseen) in above average condition. Just looking at the photos, I can tell at the very least the car is not all beat up and abused, which is an amazing thing to find regarding any old used station wagon.

Biggest holdup especially with it being winter is I would really like to see it in person before making an offer, but it's 750 miles from where I live. Long trip to make in the event I decided not to buy it but if its still for sale around Christmas week when I have time off I might take the trip. There is another '77 Impala wagon, this one dark brown with a 350 for sale only about 250 miles from Erie for $2800. Only thing is it doesn't look to be in as good of shape as this one in MN.

That seems a bit high. If i where buying it, i would show up with 1500-2000 bucks and go from there. There is a 70 chevy impala on san diego craigslist for about a grand.

I try to get my cars as original and unmolested as possible. There are way too many out there with Jimmy-Bob's souped up engine and Flowmasters and some type of mag wheels I don't care for, along with the putty filled body and $300 Earl Scheib paint job. Generally speaking, all the money those guys put in to the engines and what not don't make these sort of cars worth any more money, and they rarely get out of them what they put in to it. I like the original ones I can still keep running and are practical to drive daily during the summer, not the bored over 455 chocked full of Summit bolt-ons with 750 CFM Holley that when you are lucky to get it to run right it gets 8 MPG, really useful for nothing but the drag strip.
