I had to run to downtown Memphis this afternoon to begin my contribution to jury duty. On the way back to the office, I think I ran over a hardware store! :49: This is one tire folks; left rear.

After yanking all this steel I count 19 nails. :yikes:

The rim was on the ground when I went to leave work at 5:00. Thankfully, most of them entered almost completely sideways only penetrating the outer tread. I could only detect two leakers which have been fixed. We'll see how it does. I haven't found nails in any other tires. Perhaps a well-timed yet ill-fated lane change?

I am amazed that you could pick up that many nails in only one tire. Truly bizarre.

Don't follow those Home Depot rental trucks so closely.

I checked on the car at lunch. So far, so good on the repair and I still don't see a single nail in any other tire. :hmmm:

Yeah....what are the odds of only the left rear tire picking up 19 nails? Me thinks someone put those nails there when you were parked. Not funny!

It does seem odd that all the nails were in one tire. Almost like someone spilled them or put them near the tire.

With 2 punctures through the carcass, and 17 other holes in the tread, I would give serious thought to replacing that tire, even is you use it as a spare, and get a new pair for that axle. 19 holes is a LOT for the structure of the tire to absorb without the possibility of permanently being weakened.

I was looking at replacing the entire set by Summer anyhow so I'll just keep an eye on it and the factory spare tire ready to go in the meanwhile.

Trust level for me on that tire would be slim as well.

Although in the 80's i had a nail come out of a tire(Michelin) at over 100 mph and was

flat by the time i was stopped.

Just had it professionally repaired then drove it from Nova Scotia -Georgia and back with no trouble.
