Hi all , I am 55, retired and just picked up an '83 Caprice Classic wagon that was a friend of mine mother's car. It has not been registered since '02, 83K, loaded with everything except woodgrain (I think they had it that year), very straight, rustfree (Arizona rustfree-not midwest rustfree-I mean NO rust) but the paint is pretty baked but it was under an oversized carport so it doesn't look like it had any rain hit it-just Az sun. She passed about 6 months ago and he has been trying to show it to me(He knows I'm a sucker for old cars-any old cars). He finally got me over to look at it and it is in such good shape I called my 29 year old son who needs a car, loves camping with his family and he said he wants it. SO NOW...since grandpa is retired...I am starting to get it running...Fires up with a prime but no fuel to carb so I need to track that down first... I am going to try and post a couple pics but they are from my phone so may not be to clear...This is after the first "hose down" of dust, not washed yet. I'm not real active on the forums I belong to...Just kind of glean info from anywhere I can find it...I guess I'm a "lurker" for now...I may add a few comments if I see I may be any help someone out but usually am not involved in much discussion... OK...I am showing 2 pics and hope they show up when i post it... PS. That is an 8-Track of "Queen" on the front seat but it's for my '72 LeMans Convert (under construction)....We found it while cleaning out her house.. Travis
Thx AK27 Great....I am getting dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming........someday I may learn how to load them in a size so people can actually see them.....Yep..Someday...
Welcome, Travis. That is one beautiful wagon! I'm not sure just how sun baked that paint actually is. Those colours were 83/84 only and that lighter colour oxidizes quickly, even here in Canada. It may well buff up fairly well. Even the darker colour is very prone to oxidation, for some reason. Just one of those things with the pigments. If or when the old car gets repainted, the new paints with clear coat to protect them will stand up much better. Have fun around here. We're all a bit nuts, but we do love to have fun. This group has a way of feeling like an on-line family. Join in the madness. One more nut is always welcome.
That's a nice-looking wagon, but I need a magnifying glass to see the photos. They're the size of thumbnails.
My kind of car, good luck with it!! I like your comment about the kicking and screaming into the 21st century. I'm doing that with cars and trucks I drive. New ones are too expensive with too many toys on them.
Photo size Agreed jaunty75....see post #6 above....Still learnin these newfangled things called komputours... ...(Thats me kickin and screamin )....
at least your not kicking and screaming about having to own a wagon congrats Travis...and to the joint
