I'm glad you are okay. That's the most important part. The next is that it is rotten that you have to get the wagon fixed, but the damage doesn't look too serious. Nasty enough, for sure, but not so serious that it is a major pain to do the work. As you say, the hard part will be finding the parts you need. One suggestion: When the old tail gate comes off, save all the trim pieces for future reference. Any that can be saved intact, and any that could be repaired. The trim is often the hardest part to get, since the door and skin are used on different models, but the trim is what differentiates the pieces. Here's hoping you get really lucky and find just what you need.

Over 2 years ago my '89 Jeep Cherokee, and my right shoulder, were totaled when someone pulled out in front of me, I was going over 60 mph. Ended up getting $25,000 for the shoulder and bluebook for the Jeep. Then fairly recently as a passenger I was in a rollover crash, jacked my back and neck up pretty good. I'm going to a chiropractor 3 times a week for the next 2 months, then about a month after that I'll see some jack. The moral is, you've hit the insurance lotto, sue.

    So sorry about your wagon.

Dear azblackhemi and station wagon lovers,

My sympathies on your wagon getting damaged. My wagon was stuck in a parking lot the day before Thanksgiving 2010. For even a low speed collision the car was in the body shop until the following July.

Best of luck getting the parts to fix your Monaco and hope you've got plenty of patience!!

    Cheers, Edouard

Well the good news here is I own a Classic Car restoration shop so I will be repairing it myself. That means no "Body Shop Prision" for me. As long as Geico is fair with me I don't see any problems getting it back together other than now I'll have to paint the whole car and redo all the woodgrain.

Ah, man....sorry to hear this, hemi. Don't settle anything with your physical injuries until you are satisfied that you are OK over time. With your abilities I know you will fix that wagon up. Hope Geico treats you right and you find all the right parts soon.(y)

Have you tried Desert Valley Auto Parts?
Another thought was Murray Park in Ohio :www.cbodies.com.

Hope the physical pain is subsiding, I still have pain in my neck from a crash like yours from 15 years ago.

I hit a deer night before last, think it might have cricked up my neck worse than the rollover crash I was in last month (I was a passenger)

Well I checked with DVAP here in town and they don't have a tail gate. I have e-mailed Wildcat and Muarry Park and am waiting to hear from them. Not panicking yet but will be soon.

It'd be to your advantage to locate a tailgate before Geico gets there, but make sure they pay for your time - but you probably know that.

Yup that's what I'm trying to do but the holidays are kind of making it hard. Worst case senario I have a good tail gate for a 71 Fury Wagon that I can cut out and weld the tail light openings from my gate into it. Lots of work but as a last resort I'll have to do it.

I had the exact same thing happen to me about 10 years ago in my 68 Thunderbird, I was stopped and got rear ended. $4000 in damage to my car, I had just bought it and put $3000 into it. They offered scrap fee of less than $500. We fought for a couple of months and they finally gave in and gave me the money and my car back.

So no matter what they say, keep fighting if they want to junk it.

When my Jeep Cherokee was totaled, they gave me far less than I had put into it in just the past year. I fought them, sent in a pile of receipts, and they insulted me by increasing their offer by $50! If you haven't found a lawyer yet, I suggest you do, go for an injury settlement.
