This is as comprehensive and complete a description of a car on craigslist as I've seen.

Wonder how tough it would be to find a replacement windshield?
I'd imagine Pacer windshields are scarce.

A friend just bough a white 2-door coupe probably that year, or close for $500 in Tampa, Fl. Around 42,000 and runs like new. Needed only brake parts replaced. Haven't seen either of these for years.

Now that I look at the photo the white coupe hood goes straight across. ????? 1975?

 

From what I understand, the windshield isn't all that difficult to get. There are other issues that are more difficult to deal with. The rust in the quarters can be a major headache, especially in front of the wheelwell, as it is on the driver's side. Fixing the Limited interior is a bit of work too, since they are either a very hard to find velour, or leather. The seats are beautifully comfortable, though. Could be a neat car, but is definitely a project at this point.

 

The hood line was changed when they put a v-8 in for rad clearance.

 

Probably correct. I only saw our friend's Pacer coupe once because he went back to NY for a job. But it has the same engine pictured and the only rust issue is about 6" strip at the front lip of hood. Like maybe it was scraped or bumped. Actually not supposed to say this---But it's CUTE !

 

My son would kill for this! Yeah, I know, who the hell wants a Pacer? Well, my son does. And I know where that car is, too. I need to call that number to see if the owner is who I think it is!

This one is pricey but that is the asking price and I think it has been for sale for quite a while. VERY nice IMHO. For what you pay difference you save big time in repair costs, long term value of the car, and its useability immediately versus on and off the road while repairs are done.

Talking about the windshield, I got to wondering if it's perhaps the same windshield as in the Matador coupe?

here is one that's local to me. Its been on craigslist for a couple months now, always listed at the same price. It does look really nice but I've not seen it in person. I bet a good PDR guy could fix the hail without much trouble.

 

Krash: The Pacer has its own windshield.. I have both windshields in stock as I own a Pacer and Matador.. ( coupe sometime ago) but I have alot of parts from parted out AMC's.. I bought a Pacer windshield in KY,, summer of 2010 at a "you pick yard" for $35 + $ 35 to remove ,, I jumped on that quick... they had a man that would do anything for a fee, he was not employed by them,, just hung around waiting for a yard job.. with a business card...

 

The reason I thought they might be the same was that I remember reading that the Pacer platform actually had more in common with the wider Matador than the small Gremlin or Hornet / Concorde. Compact in length, but fairly wide as smaller cars go......

 

Yes,, Ive seen such articles, the only thing that is the exact same is the driveline avail.. 258 cid 998 tranny and 304 cid and 904/998 tranny.
And maybe the front seats.
The width of the Pacer (tracking ) is .05 wider than the big Matador
As well as the interior door to door width ( however it is that they measure it)?

 

I know the seller! Went to high school with him. Good guy. I'm gonna give this beast some serious consideration...
