There has been speculation that the next generation CTS "family" will not include a wagon. I hope that's not the case...I may NEVER be able to get my hands on a reasonably priced used CTS-V wagon if Cadillac drops it. And I certainly can't justify spending the $74,000 they want for a new one. Double http://gmauthority.com/blog/2012/11/cadillac-will-not-carry-cts-sport-wagon-into-next-generation/
Wouldn't surprise me a bit. I think I've only ever seen one CTS wagon ever. Like you, I'd have one in a heartbeat if I didn't have a house note and bills and kids and... The folks with the cash aren't buying them.
I've seen a few around here. There were several V wagons running around our area this summer; we saw quite a few of them during peak Dream Cruise activity.
If the raise the truck lid of the coupe any further, it will qualify as a long roof in its own right! As it is, the truck lid on that thing is only about 4 inches lower than the ROOF of Nora!
I was just at the Cadillac dealership a couple of weeks ago and they have one on the showroom floor (alongside a coupe, sedan, SRX and a gorgeous '76 Eldorado convertible). I was talking with the salesman about the wagon. He mentioned nothing about it being discontinued...but then again, telling a prospect that a car has been discontinued might give the impression that the car is not worth producing... I hope they don't discontinue the wagon...I find it stunning.
I agree that the wagon in the best looking of them all. Hope they stay around too, I'd love one some day. Also I have seen a decent number of them around here, but I suppose not enough. I can't imagine its that costly to produce a v wagon when you already make a v coupe and sedan on the same chassis and the wagon body is already in production. Its kinda just a mix and match of already existing parts.
Aren't the coupe and wagon going to be switched over to the ATS or XTS which will share the Zeta platform with the Camaro? I think I read that along with plans for a convertible.
If I remember correctly, originally GM wasn't going to sell the CTS wagon in the US at all. It was only or primarily meant to be a European export, as wagons still sell well there. In the middle of all this the GM financial crisis hit, and plans to export the wagon to Europe either got dropped or downsized substantially. However, development work was too far along to completely drop the wagon, so they decided to try and sell it here, and try to recoup some of the development cost. Maybe if they build an ATS wagon, it will be with plans to export that to Europe.
I think it's going the way of the Dodge Magnum, popular for a brief moment, but now gone, which is a shame. The Chrysler 300 wagon they sell in Europe, the CTS wagon (Which I have only seen one of, owned by a woman in her 60's, and it was a V6 CTS), and the Magnum would compete if the economy wasn't tanked. Huge shame, though personally they are too new for me, I like the idea of a wagon that can hit 60 in 4s, though I'd get in trouble as fast as it would take for me to wear out a set of tires, which would be the first chance I had to stop.
Rumor on the CTS-V sites is 2013 is the last year for the Vwagon. They are nice cars, but then again so is Audi Allroad especially with the wood trim.
