I'm Mike..hey how ya'll doin'? I just bought an '82 Ford Granada Station Wagon and just started working on it with my 15 year old son....we pulled the heater core out last night(actually took us two nights with this darn time change)....Planning on trying to get it as close to original as I can...Mostly trying to teach a hard headed kid how to work, cause I highly doubt he's going to college.....so he better learn how to turn a wrench or cut a straight line...
Welcome to the forum Mike!!!! Great intro, can't wait to see your pics. More dads these days should be teaching kids to turn wrenches. You can always fall back on a mechanic job when all else fails. Someones car always needs fixing. Thanks for joining us!
Howdy Mike and son, you and your son may end up getting more then job skills and a repaired heater core.
to the forum. Good way to have fun together and both learn a few things about cars and life. My son, now 22, just left to go home. Been here working together on the old wagon just like we were when he was less than two. Even when you don't get much done, it'll be worth the memories later.
I used to drive a Chev piece of crap 9 passenger half ton van. It had teeth missing on the fly wheel so if you tried to start it on the flat spot you had to crawl under and turn the fly wheel past. My son learned how to replace probably 5 starters and he could jump under and turn it in a flash. I got that fly wheel replaced by a back yard Christian mechanic and he put the wrong fly wheel in and 3 starters later put the right fly wheel in. He was hot and stole my multi tool kit . I love my Mopars. But my son who was about 8 then still laughs about that van 20 years later. Some of the things we have driven in hard times, just think about that .Good learning for kids
Welcome Mike. Went to Chackbay last Sunday for a benefit car show. Got to meet some really nice people who live there. It was my first time to Chackbay but don't think it will be my last!
Klown theres quite a few of us here that can sing the praises of being in the garage with our Dear Ol Dads !! Cars can be one of the best "common grounds" that there is ! and the FOX body cars are simple and easy to work on ...so great choice! ..hope you and the kid have a great time with it.
Bought a new battery...poured a little gas in the carb. and it fired right up!!! Now to the cleaning and sanding and finding parts
That's a different way for it to work with kids..........my daughter (42) asked me to help her get a fix up an old wagon...........just picked up a 67 Chevelle wagon......she's gonna be a "hot Rod Soccer Mom". You'll have fun with your son, just like I am with my daughter and son-in-law.
