    Hi all,

Job situation has changed meaning that I'll have to use our Wagon daily on short journeys. Which I really don't like but.... no choice here!
To save on gaz and wear, I'm considering a block heater. Which kind is best:
Coolant heater or Oil heater? And how much is it reasonable to spend on those wise accesories? Cheers :)
    F.

Coolant heater does warm up the oil. I've only had the oil type on a Corvair engine and a VW 1300 cc air-cooled engines, but not a coolant type engine. The coolant type are common, cheap and easy enough to install or fix when you're travelling.

I'm in the 'Peg - Land of Dual Block Heaters and Diesels running all night. Same as a coolant heater to me. Unless you mean a hotplate under the block at night (I've actually done that - not recommended.)

OK! Thanks. So a coolant heater seems to right thing to get (easier to install than a core plug heater). But where do I get it from. I googled it but ended up more confused!!

In a pinch a "drop light" in a safe place under the hood will provide a surprising amount of warmth.

I know this thread is a bit old but I used one of those coolant heater that mount in your lower rad hose..measure and cut out a 2-3inch piece...install heater and hose clamps and your done....worked like a sonofagun....and I picked it up at the local jobber for under $30!!:D

Used mine for 4-5 years every winter....never gave me any trouble...just make sure you follow the instructions properly for the installation of the unit...it's kinda specific were they want it mounted.

Okay, I'll keep that in consideration (as soon as I get the money and the time to de-comission the boat)
