Welcome; how nice it must be to have workshop and garage space for seven cars! That would allow for working on more than one project at a time.

these are taunus with an n. they never had anything to do with the american taurus model. they were built as midsize vehicles in cologne, germany, in the 70s. taunus is a german mountain chain, wich the cars were named after.

    Hanswurst says hello

    Hi, people,

I reside in Freiburg, Germany and I drive this reliable, old Modeo which has over 200,000 (mostly freeway) kilometers:

The only other station wagon I have ever owned was an old under-powered Toyota Corolla (the original 1600cc engine was replaced with a 1200)

I like station wagons, because you can live in them and they're practical for transporting all kinds of things.
I would rather drive a station wagon based on the following Mondeo.

Love that Mondeo wagon! In North America, we got the Mondeo, but call a Contour, and minus the long roof, worse luck. They are GREAT cars! I have to say, though, that at 200,000 your wagon is still a puppy! You should be able to get another 800,000 out of that litt wagon! Have fun and keep us up to date with what you do with and to her!

I'd have to look that up. I can't imagine a short roof on that car.
Which engines were made available? I have the 1600cc dual overhead cam, 16 valve variety which is the smallest available. It has an impressive amount of high-end torque and moves that heavy car quicker than any other 1600 I've ever had. I'll take pictures, as soon as we get the car out of the shop

My ol'lady got the car out of the shop, several weeks ago. Depending on the percentage of humidity, the engine would act up and run as if a carbouretor wasn't getting enough fuel intermittendly. I disconnected all connections, to see if corrosion was at fault (these particular vehicles are known to suffer corrosion problems at the rear lighting). I didn't find any and then assumed that the problem was at the fuel injection's airflow measurement unit. Finally, we decided that it wasn't repairable without test instruments and she took it in. The problem was at one sparkplug wire of which a weasel bit into it. I saw the damage, beforehand. But, dismissed it as the problem, because it was misfiring on all cylinders. They not only replaced the damaged wire. They sold her all four and a new set of sparkplugs, despite they still being in good condition. They told her that the misfiring left residue on the plugs which ruined them. I doubt, they would have given me such B.S.. Well, their taking her to the cleaners is a lesson, in case something like that happens again.
Appearantly, any loss of trickle voltage from any one wire gets measured by some sensor which feeds the information to the board computer, telling it to misfire on the other ones. I can't imagine any other explanation. Since I used to be a sloopy car owner, I would sometimes end up with wires melted from touching a manifold and when I correctly remounted the damaged wire, the engine would run as if nothing had happened. That was back then when you could repair the car yourself. As you see, there are only 4 wires, instead of the traditional 5.

Do the engines look anything like this?

Hi Nick, any updates to the wagon? did you ever get the wheels? I saw another one like mine but custom on google images now with the same exact wheels like mine so I was wondering if it was yours, but I noticed yours is a regent too and identical to mine.

I take it all back. We just gave it away, this summer, 'cause my wife got an Audi from a friend of hers whose husband bought it from the company he worked for. It's a 2000 Audi 6 with a 2.5 liter turbo-diesel. It's surprisingly economical and if you floor it within a certain r.p.m. band, it'll pin you to the seat, reminiscent of my old Olds Starfire muscle car. It's quite tight, under there, and you're better off having it jacked up on all fours, if you want to do anything, underneath:

She particularly likes the leather wheel and asked me if it'll fit other cars, because she wants to keep it when we junk the rest of the car. The instruments light up red. It has a 6-speed tranny, skin interior and loaded with almost everything you can get:

It doesn't have as much cargo space as the old Mondeo had. But, there's more legroom for passegers:

No. That's not our Mondeo in the background:

There's nothing like smooth, naked skin. Even when it happens to be dark blue:

Smoker friendly and air conditions/heats those seated rear:

Each door has a lamp. Probably, so that nobody will drive into an open door at night. The rear doors light up red:

That object between the shifter and the handbrake are on the "to do" list. We got it with a broken off electric outside mirror lever. I could do without all the power gadgets. But, the wife wants to keep it original:

If I feel like it, I can play window dictator with those buttons. The ones next to the lever look like the power door locks. I'm not 100% sure, because i haven't driven it for a while and all doors have buttons of which each individual one should open all doors, in vehicles with power door locks :

Two of three other wagons, in that lot. The Galant didn't look salvagable (close up, there's plenty of rust to see in structural areas and the right rear wheel looks out of alignment) and the owner towed it away. I think, it's an organ donor for an identicle model of his which is parked somewhere else:

I found the missing hubcap in the spare wheel compartment. Don't know why it ended up there. The front fender is also on the "to do" list. The drivetrain whines, at speed, and it might have to do with the lubricant level. It was in the shop, because it suddenly lost reverse gear (nobody except the dealer knows if it was manipulated to do so or not). The dealer wanted over 3,400€ to replace the tranny with a brand new one. The previous owner didn't feel like forking over so much, so his wife took it to a garage that specialized in Italian cars. They did it for 600 and I can't be sure they "remembered" to fill the tranny back up again when they were done. It shouldn't be whining at only 60,000 miles. If the dealer wasn't taking them to the cleaners, the car has a history of being a lemon. The company which owned the vehicle always paid and didn't seem to question any of the service. The last repair was the 900€ wiper motor which might really have been a 900€ wiper motor fuse. Who knows. Since we've had it, we haven't have had any newproblems with it, except for a slight clunking noise somewhere in the steering column which might be a loose or missing u-joint axle fixation bolt:
