    I'm in the process of de-wooding it partially, for some customization. I've had the car for 3 weeks. I've always wanted one and now that I have it, it's time for some personal mods. I'm going for a mild cosmetic customization. I was going to do a radical El Camino chop but I like the usefulness of the wagon so I changed those plans. Here's a digitally enhanced photo of the look I'm going for;

    I'll probably use some trim or stripes to make it look like an older real woody wagon.

    I'll have quite a few woody body moldings, stainless belt line moldings, front bumper [maybe rear also if I go for the roll pan], grille and class III hitch available if anyone needs any items.

    Stormin ~ I was editing/adding a photo while you posted :)

    I've got the drivers side de-wooded [except the section thats staying] and de-trimmed. I'm looking for the correct color [like the amber/gold on old real woodies] vinyl body side molding or tape stripes for the fake trim.

    Something along these lines;

    [IMG]

    Yes, I'm anal about seeing what it will look like [digital enhancements] as it progresses, including the primer spots from the trim hole repairs :)

    Just noticed your avatar. My last project was a 1979 Fairmont wagon ~ I6 with a 4 speed. I still have the Billet adapters for 4 lug to 5 lug that I used to mock up some 5 lug Mustang wheels but I ended up just using the Mustang 4 lug 10 holes. I also had an '85 LTD LX that I regretfully sold last year but it went to a good home ~ a Ford dealer/collector in Texas.

    You can get that color of woodgrain from Avery-Dennison. They bought the original supplier (Sharpline) to GM and still produce it:
    http://www.sharpline.com/

    http://www.averygraphics.com/pls/avery/avery_ext_signage.html

    This Canadian company bought 3M's Di Noc exterior vinyl line who made some 60 woodgrain colors, used for cars - you'd have to email them:

    http://www.windowfilmcanada.com/Home/Default.aspx?DealerGroupID=7

    This is 3M's new auto-vinyl line:

    These guys specialize on precut car vinyl for wagons:

    This is a Wagoneer Molding Refacing kit that the guy worked on while I was researching my own solution - looks good too!

    Pretty car! I walked passed one with my wife the other day, and she loooooved the drop-down dash console (radio/cup holder). We've got those reclining seats in my 1979. Comfy.

    I appreciate the links but I'm not looking for the wood grain veneer nor wood grain trim/resurfacing. I want a solid color 1" pinstripe tape or vinyl trim in close to the old style real woody light amber/butterscotch color. It will probably be a tape stripe which would be easiest and look the best. I'm thinking a vinyl "chrome" molding along the bottom of the wood veneer to the front might look best? The burnt orange graphic will likely be painted on.

    I looked long and hard for my LTD LX and found it about 3 hours away. It was a 1 owner and sat for 8 years due to a leaking water pump after the owner broke off a couple bolts when attempting to remove it and gave up. I went through it, sold it to another Fox 4 eye lover, he did more and I bought it back! I hated to sell it but ............ I didn't have the room to store it. They're very rare and I'm sure I'd never find another as original or as nice. It's a 4 door Mustang you know ~ 5.0 HO EFI, traction lock, HD sway bars, buckets w/ console from the factory :)

    Well that Sharpline link might be the answer, but another member NWWagonxxxx? posted a link that got trashed during a site server problem and I made a note of it. They carry the old fibreglass molding parts for the late 50's to early 60's Fords. I just checked the link and they've got stuff for all the major lines, including GM:

    I lucked out with my engine swap from the 302 to the 200 six. It's much quicker than the V8 was. Our streets all have radar cameras and our Public Insurance hits hard with demerit points. And there's no volume-discounts on speeding tickets either. HandyAndy can vouch for that. :evilsmile:

    I'd probably feel different if we weren't in open, flat Prairie, but she's quick enough in traffic and she holds her own at highway speeds. I was hauling a cubic yard of wet sand for my new sidewalk slabs yesterday, and motor never strained at 65 MPH. That's about 2,900 lbs with the trailer, and the car weighs 2,700. Had my Hemi-racing days and went for creature comforts and reliabity.

    BUT!!! I'm going to tease my power appetite with this little mean SOB and still keep my MPG within reason!

    I've been striping since 1976, both paint and vinyl, and the colors you want should be available from one of the manufacturers. I've been a Sharpline customer since 1984, and am a 3M approved applicator.
    Another idea would be to get a large print done of what you want, both left and right, like a partial wrap, and apply that.

    StriperSS ~ I've got a few calls & e-mails in to a few suppliers, awaiting responses. The wood shown is on the car and original. I removed the rest of it and trim except for the Tri5 section remaining. A wrap wouldn't work for me, I need some depth but a good idea.

    $arge ~ I wanted to do an SHO wagon like a buddy did;

    [IMG]

    but this wagon came up for cheap so I bought it. I decided to keep the Woody Wagon motif but with a twist :) It's a huge wagon, not an LT1 version unfortunately and I would have preferred a Caprice but.....

    Rev ~ Thanks and you shall see :)

    OPINIONS Please ~ I'm still working on the design a bit. A friend said today that it would look better with a backslash; [caution, quick rough draft]

    [IMG]

    What's your opinion? Forward slash wood or back slash cut like above?

    THANKS!
