Claimed 20k miles. Anyone know what the thing is mounted on the instrument panel between the a/c controls and the rear window defroster switch? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1979...4753782?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4abc2ea676
Did anyone notice that the header looks a slightly different blue than the body? Also, that rust on the right quarter looks like an old repair that is gone again, just the way it is bubbling.
With the wear on the steering column and lack of a brake pedal pad I question the miles on that car.....
You guys are teaching me to be a detective. I have to go back and forth to see what you see. Its kind of like playing WHERES WALDO
Guys like KK, Mike and Saf etc.. have such a good eye for these things. Any time you have questions one of them always seems to have an answer.
Chances are that's because we've been working on cars since Christ was corporeal. I have had mechanics ask me what's wrong with customers' cars when they get completely stumped. Trouble is, we don't have mechanics anymore. Now, we have technicians, and they know diddly about the way a car actually works!
That thing on the dash is a Sirius satellite radio mount. I know it's a totally unique concept but I E-mailed the seller and asked him.
The actual mileage is important, but is only a very small part of the value of a car. A wagon like this being driven a mile by grandma versus when her grandson borrows the car to pick up his girlfriend a mile away are going to be very different. How the car is used, cared for, stored, where it lives such as a rust free environment or beside the ocean are all big things to consider. And because a wagon is for sale in central California does not mean it lived its life there, it could have spent the first 75% of its life running around the rust belt until the then owner moved to warmth and sunshine. If something is missing, like a brake pad, and not replaced then that says a lot for how the car was used and maintained. A car that is seldom used can have issues just because of that if it is not stored properly or kept clean inside, out and underneath. That's my take on car buying. Learned the very hard way :banghead3: over the years.
