First day in the forum. I'm a 63 year old retiree, from the oil and gas industry. Have been into cars all my life. Just purchased a 1992 Olds Custom Cruiser, bought it from a friend who bought it new. His wife used it to follow their son's college football career and she only missed 2 games in four years. Lots of miles (220K) but really great condition, doesn't burn any oil and gets right at 20 mpg. Have always liked wagons, Dad had a '56 Chevy and a 62 Chevy and I bought a 55 Ford in high school for $20 and drove the wheels off of it. Not sure of the direction for the Olds but I'm gonna drive it, maybe some of you have some ideas. Glad to be here. Thanks in advance.Don't have pics yet but will get some posted soon.
Hey Oldcoot love that name welcome I joined the crew here in August and cant seem to stay away and I AM NOT A COMPUTER PERSON.My adult kids laugh at me because I have not much skill with it.I cant even figure out my cel phone.Anyhow there is a wealth of information here so have fun. theres about 40 hours of cool wagon photos Enjoy
Welcome, Oldcoot. Great name, too. You'll have all sorts of fun around here. Just watch out. You have the perfect tow vehicle, and you're retired. Bet there's a couple members (you KNOW who you are) will try to make a trailerite out of you, too! Enjoy. Can't wait to see pics of that wagon of yours. I really love seeing the very high mileage cars still active, and living on. By the way, to some of my friends, 220,000 miles is barely broken in. One has over 1,000,000 on a Crown Victoria, so you've a ways to go before you catch up.
You have excellent taste in cars, '92 OCC's rule!! The '55 Ford I had in high school cost me 75 bucks, the 390 I put in it cost me 50 bucks.
to the wagon train, coot! 220K miles, huh? Shows you what these 'ol wagons can do when called on! By the way....you aren't old. There's a guy here that's probably twice your age. Don't remember who it is off hand but I think he has a cat and a Model T. Might have a 55 Chevy wagon, too. Anyway....you aren't old. Like to see some pix of the Olds wagon when you get some. We are glad to welcome you to our wagon family!
Welcome! We're all old coots at heart, here. If you're one at 63, I'm ancient at 64! Anyway, have fun, we usually do, and even some of the young guys teach and learn too.
:confused: I resemble that remark ! First off...... Now that all the formalities are over, you must understand a few things. We are not here for fun and games. This station wagon forum was created by some real young kid from another country. The sole purpose is to discuss station wagons and station wagons only. No crap about remodeling houses or taking trips around the globe. No talk about dogs, cats or other dumb animals. I don't own either and wish to keep it that way. A wife and a herd of kids is enough. Even though I finally evicted the kids. I'm still debating on what to do with the wife. She is pretty good choppin wood, mowin, fixin meals, and she's kinda cute! And further more, no mention of age should be ever made. Some of those old coots are very sensitive! Other than that, hope you and your beat up old station wagon enjoy it here. Even with the strict rules it can be an exciting place. Of course, I get excited going to the dentist!
This ain't no fishin or hunting tournament! Steph didn't put a limit on coots or whippersnappers ! As long as they are old enough to love station wagons and still breathin. It's lookin like it could be touch and go for a few members here.
