Got up early this morning and drove up to Belton to dig for OCC parts. On getting there I was tickled to find out it was half-price day! I wish I'd brought some real tools! Just had the basics. Anyway there were a LOT of B-bodies there today. Only one wagon, an LT1 Caprice that was hit hard, but lots of sedans and other stuff. As usual I nabbed pics for ya'll. Enjoy! Caprice #1 Found a very complete '79 Buick Park Ave with the DEEP pillowed seats. Chrome was great but I didn't have the tools to pull it...dang!! The brown Electra has a scratch in the front bumper, and the bumper on this car would have cost $12.50 today! Doh! Trans Am T-top If you squint you can see the super-clean white '83 Z28 T-top that had just come in. It was on the rack getting the fluids removed. T-top car complete down to the factory wheels. WHY did it end up in the salvager yard??? Caprice # 2 Clean and rust-free Elky next to a Roady sedan. TONS of good parts! Blue over grey Roady Sedan LeSabre hit hard RS T-top Caprice # 3
Purple Elky with the top cut open?? BIG CADDY Found the fender skirts Caprice #4....LT1 wagon Caprice #5 Caprice #6 Always liked these hubcaps Monte Carlo SS...would have loved to have nabbed the rear axle for my Cutlass! Caprice # 7 Caprice # 8 Another Roady sedan Fiero GT
Caprice # 9 Big Fleetwood Delta 88 Coupe Caprice # 10 Caprice #11-12 Caprice # 13 Catalina Coupe I nabbed a top-line Olds Cassette radio out of a '92 Cutlass, but sadly the cassette does not work. I also pulled the passenger fender horns from the blue Roady sedan so I can do the 4-note conversion on my OCC. Love that mod! Got both of the rear grab handle light lenses from that wrecked Roady wagon, along with some interior trim bits I was needing. Pulled the rear door panel lights from the red Roady sedan with tan interior. Got some rust-free air cleaner bolts for my Olds...and can you believe it, out of ALL those Caprice''s there was not one with the TBI 5.7 air cleaner badge! Dang, ha! All that crap cost me $16! Man I wish I'd brought more tools and known it was half-price day! Still fun, and with the cold front we got yesterday it was only in the 80's out there. Perfect yarding weather! -Mike
I love the seats and interior in that 79 Park Ave. It was in SUCH nice shape! If it was a coupe I'd be pulling the seats for my '79 Electra. The Electra has sililar seats but they are not as deeply pillowed. FAN-CY! Ha! -Mike
Junkyard treasure? In 2003, opening the trunk of a late 80s Park Avenue and finding someone's bag of (clean, actually, not dirty) laundry complete with a half full box of dryer sheets and one and a half rolls of quarters. Guess who has two thumbs and enjoyed lavender fresh smelling clothes for the two following weeks along with a basically "free" AM-FM cassette/EQ Delco stereo for his old Celebrity?
Mike, Those cassette players will often work if you just replace the drive belts. Most of the time, the belts have dried out and crumbled.
Nope, but my pants pockets are generally well stocked in green pennies before I leave any yard. Coinstar machines eat 'em, any color.
I washed my wagon tonight at the car wash and picked up 55 pennies lying on the ground in the wash bay. Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck! So, I've got 55 days of good luck coming. If you subscribe to the "must be heads up to be good luck", statistically 1/2 of those should have been face up, so I've got at least 27 days of good luck coming!
