    Corvair StationWagon Lakewood Edition

It is pretty rust free, yet someone knocked out the windows so inside shes rough.

It arrived at my door today with the 80+ year old man whose brother used to drive it. He is asking me to sell it for him.

I will post a picture of it tomorrow.

I personally have never seen one till today. Growing up in the rust belt most 1960's cars were long gone by the time I paid attention to cars.

    Anybody here have one?

There was a "back yard'er" in a small BC town that sounds a lot like the one you have. Body and interior were good, ran okay, needed brakes and tires and who knows what else. I couldn't confirm a price on it and it was gone the next time we went back. I think he wanted $1,500 for it but again, I could never get the person at the house to give me an actual drop-dead number. It was always "well, I think he might want somewhere in the $1,400 to $1,600 range, he says Barret Jackson sells them for $15,000 all the time".

There is a Corvair wagon I've seen driving around in my part of town. I think it's pretty cool looking! First one I've ever seen.

Looks like a great place to put a north star v-8!

I've heard of Northstars being put into GM A-bodies and X-bodies (Celebrity, Citation, Ciera, et al...), but not Corvairs. That must be an interesting conversion.

they will fit in a fiero with a small cut to the firewall.

I wonder if the caddy front suspension could be made to work?

Because if they are unsafe with a flat 6 it would be down right fun with a northstar!

Looks European. I'm assuming that the engine was relocated back under the hood since there is no trunk. Must be pretty low production #s on this sucker.

The Corvair wagons were available in the '61 and '62 model years. The '61's were called 'Lakewood', in the 500 and 700 series trim. For '62, they dropped the 'Lakewood' name and just called them station wagons, also dropped the 500 series trim for the wagon. Available in 700 and new Monza series trim. Wagon Corvairs discontinued for the '63 model year due to the popularity of the new (and much roomier) ChevyII wagon.

I always thought one of these with a big blown V8, maybe even sticking out the roof would be so awesome. Perhaps even with the backseats fowards enclosed.

Corvair wagons were very popular in central Illinois and probably the rest of midwest. Of course all Corvair engines were in the rear with transaxles. Even my UltraVan.

I would like one, there are a few modern engines that can be fitted in these. Subaru engines, and porsche engines are first to enter my mind. then you can hide any numbers of chevy v8's in the back of these wagons under hollowed out faux luggage.....
