For me, there is a Golden Ratio:

If the distance between the back of the rear seat and the tailgate is less than the height of the cargo bay, it is a hatchback.

Sorry about the flawed poll question, but I appreciate the interesting responses. My understandimg is that crossovers and SUV formats have allowed carmakers to dodge certain fuel economy and safety standards that would apply to traditional cars by claimimg the vehicles were more light trucks. I think the popularity of SUV's, Crossovers, and Mini-Vans point out that people still want large vehicles with lots of interior space for passengers and cargo. So, I'm thinking that if someone makes the right wagon, people will buy.

I would like to think that but I personally feel that it won't happen because while minivans might not be as popuular as they once were, SUVs and crossovers are "trendy" and a status symbol. I would love to see a day come when wagons, true wagons like what was made in the past, be the vehicle of choice. Perhaps such a day is on it's way. My last job I had my boss, awesome guy, was starting to expand his family. He didn't like
minivans and just outright refused to get an SUV. he went straight for used but newer Volvo wagon. I admit that I squeeled like a girl when he promised I could drive. Sadly I never got to.
