The world lost one of its greatest citizens today as Andy Griffith died at the age of 86. He was someone I always looked up to and hope I have some of the same qualities he displayed. RIP Andy and sympathies to the Griffiths! http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/03/us/north-carolina-griffith-burial/index.html
New York Times article from today states that at the peak of his popularity Andy bought his clothes off the rack and drove a Ford station wagon!
RIP Andy. I think it's equally important to many that Sergio Pininfarina has died at 85 as well. He and his father were, in my opinion, 2 of the best car designers in the world. Bar none.
Lots of great quotes from the show, maybe Briscoe Darling said it best talking about Andy's generous nature: "That haircut of yours may be city style but your heart was shaped in a bowl." ....Briscoe Darling talking about Sherriff Andy Taylor
One of my favorite musical numbers by the Dillards(the Darlings) featuring Andy on backup guitar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQtXEb7C30o
That is a nice song.... RIP Andy. I did not know it till today (on the news) that Andy ws a well known gospel singer also... http://www.deseretnews.com/article/...spel-singer-Andy-Griffith-dies-at-age-86.html
The Andy Griffith Show debuted in October, 1960 - when I was 9 years old. It ran until 1968 - my junior year of high school. It wasn't a regularly watched show in our household, I think because the folks had a hard time relating to the 'southern charm' it displayed. Maybe a bit snobby on the part of my family, but I guess growing up in a beach community of SoCal there wasn't much in common. I think we missed out by not watching that show........
Read that in the article today. Made me love him even more. Andy Griffith was a big deal for us, here. My folks grew up on it and my mom was a really big fan. I remember as young as 3 years old watching 'The Andy Griffith Show' and 'Matlock' with her. I also remember watching 'The Andy Griffith Show' with Dad in his shop. We had even considered moving to Mt. Airy, NC (Andy's hometown(my idea)) for some of that Mayberry charm. I think that the morals of 'The Andy Griffith Show' had a huge impact on the man I am today, as silly as that sounds. I listened to this song today, it was on my mom's Andy Griffith cassette tape and I remember hearing it many, many times in my childhood.
RIP... The Andy Griffith show is one that I grew up with and brings back memories of a time long gone....
before you ask, yes we loved the Andy Griffith show wish they played reruns for my gran kids, little bit of quality/values would mabye improve the young ones attitude to life.
TV Land is running the Andy Griffith shows all day today. Watching the one right now where Barney wants to join the choir but can't sing. Still holds up after all these years - watching Andy show Barney how to sing is hilarious. These shows puts me right back to being a little kid watching whatever my parents wanted to watch. Like most of America in the 60's we had one TV and my brothers and I had little input on what was going to be on. That he drove a Ford wagon at the height of his popularity just reinforces that Andy was a good guy. Today's "stars" could learn a few things from him.
Andy bought his clothes off the rack and drove a Ford station wagon! Back in Pekin, Illinois people drove Ford, Chevy, and Plymouth wagons. I didn't realize it till moving to Florida that Pekin was a lot like Mayberry. In fact many midwestern and southern towns were much like what we saw on those TV shows. We had the grocers who knew our names, the barber, even the shade tree mechanics and the town drunk. He was harmless too. Life really was good in the 50's and 60's and those TV shows helped us kids learn about the true meaning of life. Now kids have their own TV's in their own rooms and watch adult rated crap not fit for their eyes and ears. We'll miss Andy and the gang. And I agree with silverfox on loosing another great auto designer. As we see more of them passing we realize life is short and no amount of fame or money can prolong it.
Andy suffered a heart attack 24 hrs before he passed. Apparently, he had a long history of high cholesterol and high triglycerides, etc.
