The Original Color was Yorktown Blue Poly Code FF. This is the color that has 85% of my vote. I have been entertaining ideas just to see how I feel.. See color here.. http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1962-pontiac-pg01.jpg
FINALLY ALL IN PRIMER!! I think I am going to need some more. I have been buying the urethane primer in quarts so I would not have a lot left over. But the BONDO brand filler on the driverside fender is really showing just how cheap that stuff really is. I bought a gallon of REAL autobody filler. It is more runny, but fills nice, sands great and NO bubbles. The bubbles are what I am fighting on that fender. I might have 1 more quart needed. As I need to block sand the entire car and prime the door jams etc.. So one more bondo run and another prime. Then a block sand and then PAINT!!!
looks good ,your right bondo brand is really tough to work with, i've found through the years that if you fold filler when mixing instead of stiring bubbles will form, it traps the air. Good luck, I'm sure its gonna look fantastic.
Thanks!!! I was talking to a few people about color schemes. Will most tell me there colors etc, I have photoshoped a few and I really like my original color scheme. White roof and tailgate with blue sides etc.. I am going to use the original Yorktown blue. http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1962-pontiac-pg01.jpg Dave
Two tone always looks good, with all the one color monocramatic, plastic junk out now two tone is a refreshing change, dosen't matter what colors. Go for it
On these Pontiacs, my favorite side trim was on the 61 Canadian Laurentian models. It was the same as the side trim on the Catalina trim package in the U.S. but it was on all the body styles. It outlines that cove on the side, making a perfect outline to paint the cove to match the colour of the roof. The blue and white sounds like it will be truly beautiful, too.
Dave I can't wait to see you finally get this painted. Just like I bet you can't wait to see a video of my wagon running. It looks great so far. How long did the sanding take to get it ready for primer?
Thanks!!! I saw your updates.. Sorry for the stones.. Wagon looks awesome!!!! The driver side took 50 hours. A LOT of body work went into the rockers and bottom of the doors. passenger side to 3 hours.. Almost no welding or bondo. Most likely the driverside got hit.. I have a little more filler to do on the driver fender, then I can start to finish the last coat of primer. The paint is a ways off as I need to 320 the entire car before the paint. Plus in a two tone, I am going to have to retape all of the non color 1 area. Paint color 1, wait for it to dry and then tape color 1 so I can paint color 2... Kinda PITA, but worth it!!!!
50 hours? Wow. That is a lot of time invested. Hopefully you like the color you choose. You don't want to have to redo it. But yeah definitely worth it. Sanding the car brings a lot of surprises. I wont be getting into the paint stuff for at least a year I hope. I don't know if I have the energy.
I bought the white paint today. I was talking to my guy at the Napa. I was gonna go with pure white, but I went with an Arctic White. Has a hint of blue in it. I think that it will look better than just a true white. I am not that close, but needed it to motivate me. Weather here is too hot to be working in a stuffy garage.
Good choice on the white. A stark white is, in my books, a cold colour. The hint of blue with blend perfectly with the main colour on the car.
You know I was all Gung Ho!!!!! about the pure white until I saw the Arctic White next to the pure white. The pure white almost looked unhappy next to it. Kinda hard to explain. Your "COLD" description might be the best way to describe the situation.. More to come..
You know Pontiac already gives you a solution to the cold white problem. The two tone color on my car was Nocturne Blue and Camio Ivory which is not pure white. Nice color that compliments their other colors. The same color was available in 1962. http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1962-pontiac-pg01.jpg
