Can't believe so many people, even younger, want to go back to the 50's. Personally I could hardly wait to get into the modern age.
Now I'd like to fast forward into the future, yet be much younger.
    :huh:Are we still on topic?:nohijacking:

I knew about the 3.8 way back in '83 when I put in the order for my company car. of the GM cars that year, we could only order Chevy Celebritys or Pontiac 6000's. No Buick Century's or Olds Cieras - and those 2 were the only ones who had the 3.8, with a 3.0 as the standard V6. So I take the 6000 with the 2.8 and be satisfied. Very nice car - except for the marginal motor.

If I could time-travel, I'd go back to that era and NEVER come back lol.

Closest I've had to a 3.8 is a 3.3 that my wife had in a '92 Skylark when we first met. It returned decent fuel economy, was quite fast compared to some of the emission choked V8's I've driven, and held up to the abuse of my wife's driving. Working on it in that car was very tough, between that and endless water leaks in the car is why we finally got rid of it.

it was a much simpler time...the communists were still in still back in russia instead of here. the cars didnt have emmissions equip that added $$$ to the price. and the food police didn't exist...neither did the green police!

My only experience with the 3.8 was in my Step-grandfather's 78 Skylark. The Skylark replaced a 68 Nova with the 250 I-6. Give the me 250 any day. That 3.8 was a gas hog, had rotten performance, and idled like a tractor. I know it was an odd firing engine but it was a miserable lump! Were it mine, it would have had a V-8, with better performance and better fuel economy.

I would think after two of the same he would learn. I guess he really just likes those cars. Now if he'd only stop wrecking them!

Along about '88, GM redid the 3.8, added II to the name and it was a great engine. The supercharged Riviera and some other cars were a blast to drive.
It won Wards '10 best engines in the world' title in 1995,96 and 1997.

Apparently the ones with a balance shaft and improved rear main seal were a vast improvement over the earlier models.

My '85 Country Squire was rearended and totaled 6 years ago.
    By a Grand Marquis!
My '88 Colony Park was T boned and totalled last month.
It wasn't the fault of the cars or me.
Maybe Orlando is just a Ford wagon sucking vortex of some sort......:hmmm:
