Hello all. I just stumbled upon this site, from Wagonmasters on Facebook. My son and I each have two Jeep XJ Cherokees, and my wife drives an '04 OBW. All five autos have a way-back, so I'm hoping that they'll be looked upon as station wagons, even if not in the traditional sense. I've always had a weakness for '64-'72 Vista Cruisers, but never got around to owning one. My first foray into wagons was a '74 Pinto Squire. It must have been a dealer demo, as it had every option a Pinto could be ordered with, and it was a stick! Neat little car. It got hit, and wasn't worth repairing, so it was replaced with an '80 Merc Zephyr Villager-it also had lumber sides. The original owner probably didn't like changing oil, because by 140k miles, the engine was way tired. But, ten years and 70k miles for $1500 was a check in the win column! The Zeph got replaced in '98 with our first new vehicle, a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Beautiful car, but two power steering pumps and three fuel pumps by 70k miles, and as soon as it was paid off, it was traded on our Outback Wagon. This car has been amazing, until recently. The dreaded Subaru headgasket...stock vs. aftermarket three-piece affair. Chose the three-piece, let's see if it was the right choice. I got into XJ Cherokees when I bought my '92 in '99, when I switched jobs and lost my company ride. It had 78k miles on it, now has 205k. I had a small mishap with it in early '07, and had to replace it. I bought a '96 Cherokee Country to use as my daily driver. My son and I took some night classes at the local vo-tec, he in welding, me in auto body. We ended up restoring the '92 to the point that it is now registered as a 'Classic Vehicle' here in Pennsylvania. A little overboard? I took a quick glance around this website, and I'm surprised at the amount of tech I've found. The Jeep forums I frequent are full of tech, fab, and ideas, and the Subie site means well, but...I'm glad to have found this site, and look forward to reading, and possibly contributing from what I've learned from wrenching on cars for 40+ years, and driving wagons for over 30... Ray
Glad you're here, Ray. Sounds like you've got a broad range of knowledge and talent - you'll fit in here real well. Got a few AMC Eagle devotees here who you might find interesting. Neat intro, BTW.... Marshall
Here's an older shot of the collection. The third one is my '92 that is now restored, and it appears as my avatar photo.
to the forum. I'm also new. I think those Jeeps look awesome. In my opinion if you are willing to share experience and knowledge then the more the merrier. I have a 72 dodge polara custom wagon. Not a vista cruiser, but the right year.
I tried on the User CP to add my vehicles. There's no choice for Jeep. Of all the makes listed, Jeep by far has the highest percentage of wagon type vehicles in their lineup. I think Willys was there, but mine were AMC designs built by Chrysler. I feel denied... Just looked again. No Willys!
my girls got a 92 Cherokee....no..its not exactly a wagon...but hey yur welcome to hang brother...its about the 'wagon luv' more than the possesion to the board
