Mine would have been the rusty old Brown '76 Buick Estate I made deliveries in when I worked for my uncle. I really thought if I took good care of it they'd sell it to me. The agreed to but I had to keep my nose clean and my driving record clear. Th car wasn't really too rusty but it did consume a lot of oil. I didn't have to do many oil changes because i was always adding fresh... kind of self cleaning. (I was 19 at the time.) Well, I worked for the place close to 2 and a half years, maybe 3 and I wasn't making the best choices. The car began to have issues, worse than the bad seals... noone knew how many miles the car had on it as it had been used it 3 company branches in 3 states, the nearest guess was that in probably had close to, of not over 300K on the 400. Still I wanted it and figured a few hundred buck (at the time) for an overhaul would be money well spent as everything else worked fine but one bad decision, one night, changed everything. Enter the Omaha police after a night of stupidity... that ended up being my turning point. A DUI meant high risk, personal insurance and a bunch of well meaning elders thinking I needed to learn a lesson about personal responsibility. It worked. They sold the wagon for next to nothing and, after a few weeks, while I manned up at took on the responsibility for what I'd wrought, I was given my walking papers. In the interim, however, because my dad could see that I truly was sincere in getting my life in check, he helped me buy my first car with money I'd gotten from a settlement after an accident. This was a car I'd been eyeing for a few years and was working on the elderly woman for the whole time. It had been her husband's car, in the family since new and purchased in California (AAA plaque still in place since 1962) Fo 425 buck, I got a cherry, Fawn Gold with matching interior, 1962 Corvair Monza 700 sedan (with all the fixings) and only 42,000 miles on it.
    Damn I loved that car.
    That saga continues.

I think I mentioned my '66 Impala, sold to me buy my brother, in my introduction. Though I owned it, It was still the other one that got away. Bruised and broken, I wish I'd never sold it.

Now I seem faced with the same dilemma. I wish my wife could see the practicality of restoring the Buick to like new, not better than new, condition. It is nearly as capable as my Suburban, would best it on fuel economy plus it looks and rides so much nicer. ah well, such is life...
