First post! I've been into classic wagons for about 5 years now, having owned a '63 Catalina Safari which I regrettably sold. Found this site when I began looking for another wagon. Finally bought another full size wagon just recently, a '69 Bonneville. Like my wagons big and bold!
Oh man....... I'm looking too, and a late 60's Bonneville wagon is on my short list. Where did you find it? Post up some pics please, as soon as you can..... Welcome to the forum..... Marshall
It's a California desert wagon, so it needs a lot of cosmetics and some mechanical work but has a pretty long option list and is mostly rust free. Will post pics soon. In my imagination it looks like this but is green!
to the wagon train, elefant. Big and bold is what you got! And beautful, too! We know what it's like to buy wagons that need work so, we are dying to see that Bonney! Post up some pix! How To: Post Pictures in a Thread
Working on getting a couple pics. Mine is in a little better shape than this here similar desert wagon, but not by much: http://www.autoobsession.com/RestorationParts/69Bonneville_projectcar/index.html
Here is an old picture (when first spotted) and a new picture when purchased. I wish I had bought it years ago! Now I am looking at a lot of paint and some interior work. Was contemplating between the original steel wheels and the Rally2s now on it. I like both but decided on the Rally2s.
It might not be the cleanest of survivors but it does look to have an original 67K miles, believe it or not.
Here it is! Five years ago this month I purchased the ultimate Big Engine Wagon! I'm the second-owner of this custom-ordered 1974 Gran Torino Squire. It was originally equipped with the 460, and the owners replaced it with another one about 13,500 miles ago. This 20 ft long monster (oh, Tiger is the name the original owners called it) has a total of 163,500 miles on it, I drove 5,000 of those in the past five years. It's insured by Hagerty's so it kept locked in a garage. The interior is in perfect condition, right down to the original floor mats. It includes the Brougham package (chocolate brown interior throughout, leather seats, shag carpet, the works!) The paint job is seven years old and they retained the original color: Ford Medium Lime Yellow. I have receipts for every dollar ever spent on this beauty, even records of the owners ordering it from the dealership! I need to replace it with something a bit more modest, though (my wife is very scared of it), so if you know of any interested parties, I'm willing to take a bit of a loss and I'll entertain offers. Tons of additional shots, inside and out, on request!
That's a beautiful wagon, Danlin69. I know Ford offered the 460 in '74 (replacing the 429), but very, very few actually came with the big monster. The horsepower wars had ended, and the government was smogging everything up, so cubic inches were added to make up for the lost horsepower. Most thought the 351 was adequate though. If you are serious about selling it, put a thread up in 'for sale' section, with a bunch of pics, in, out, and all around.....(you'll need a few more posts first though, including your own intro...) And...please stick around and enjoy out pleasant banter, even if you sell her! Marshall
