The hesitation I was experiencing was due to the fuel level in the bowl being too low. I adjusted the float to bring the level up to spec, and now there is no more hesitation, sputtering, stalling etc. I also found some vacuum hose diagrams online that show how my lines should be connected. I routed them accordingly (the previous owner had them all messed up) and things seem fine now. Now I just need to find a new muffler. Mine seems to have developed a hole.

A nice Turbo muffler or a Smitty's glaspack will do.

I always go for a true dual system with x cross over. It is good for about 6 m.p.g. and about 25 horse. I use FlowMaster DeltaFlow stainless mufflers. Sounds nice but isn't too loud.
