My family is big on camping. We go as often as possible in our little Viking pop up. Our wagon already had the tow package when we bought her. We can't wait to rumble in the campground with BBB and set up vintage style...our pop up is older as well. So do any of you pull campers with your wagons or just simply use them to camp out of?
My wife and I, then the kids, then their friends, have been camping since her and I first took the 1949 Dodge, two of those antique canvas lawn chairs, blankets for a tarp, river willows for the framework to attach to the open door of the car, and stayed overnight many times at the swimmin hole at the State Park out of town. We soon bought a large old type army wall tent. Then more modern tents. From there it was a tiny fold down, then larger RV's, a fifth wheel, and a motorhome. 55+ years of happy memories, mostly in State and County type campgrounds. Even belonged to a membership camp group for many years. Did a lot of dreaming about pulling an old RV with an old vehicle. Closest we got was driving the station wagon or 55 Chevy sedan and staying in rental units or cabins at campgrounds. Even partially built our 1948 Chevy panel truck to pull an antique RV of some sort. Bought an antique motorhome four years ago. But, life, health, family prevented those dreams from happening. Anyone who hasn't camped has missed some great things in life. There are several members right here pulling antique RV's with beat up ole wagons. I'm sooo jealous !
Safari57 will chime in here when he comes on. He and many of his friends have Silverstreams and pull them all over with their vintage cars. Lots of campers here with old stuff. Hey, Cat...I love that panel!
Like my wife, you are not ashamed to tell your age. Never could figure why women don't want others to know how old they are. Then again, when many are finally "over the hill" they brag. "Hey, I'll be 87 years and two weeks old tomorrow," they say! No matter what your age, you are only as old as your mind thinks you are. Keep active, keep havin fun, and keep on camping. Thanks silverfox for the panel comment.
I've been looking for a vintage style canned ham to use with our Ranch Wagon,, I've never owned one but remember fondly going camping with my grandparents in a late 50's Shasta,,,HRP
Travel Trailer camping is the way to go.... Had a 26' 5th wheel, but I liked the setup I had with my 23' Wilderness bunkhouse. Unfortunately, the rest of the family decided they didn't like camping anymore, so the trailer went down the road, along with the F250 I towed it with.
We use our wagons all the time for our camping adventures. It is a great way to put the wagon to one of its originally intended purposes, travel in style getting to the campground, and we have a great time. You may want to check out the Tin Can Tourists Many members use vintage vehicles, usually wagons, trucks or older suburbans, etc. to tow their trailers. www.tincantourists.com
Bad me! I forgot to mention the TinCanTourist group. That's what got us hooked on our old motorhome. I don't belong but try to attend any local shows if I remember. And I lurk on the site now and then.
Me n the gal are takin the Silver Streak for its maiden voyage real soon....gonna sneak up on Saf...and his trailer trash friends otherwise....my idea of rouging it.....is "cant find the remote"...
You two are gonna love camping among old RV and car lovers. At least you will start right out with things to lie (talk) about ! Take lots of pictures.
