It is a 1965 Chrysler and Imperial service manual, I found a digital one; (the 1965 chrysler service manual) http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=109
Here are some scans that I made from my '66 service manual, I think they are the same: I hope it will help you
Thank for the scans, I got the bearings and all out but the darn drum still will not come off. It is stuck at the top, the bottom will move on both the driver and passenger side but something is still keeping it stuck.
Is it possible the master cylinder has failed due to sitting up so long and locked up all the brakes?
Anything is possible Motomike, I would still think after all the PB Blaster and hammer hitting and pryint it would have released...........It is only stuck in the middle at the top on both sides. However the brear wheels are turning fine so they are not locked up?
Rob, Every thing between the drum and the backing plate is replaceable at your local parts store. You're gonna replace that stuff anyway or at least you should. WHY BE GENTLE? IS THERE A HARBOR FREIGHT ON YOUR SIDE OF THE PLANET? They sell a dent puller for maybe $20 that has a 90* plate attachment in the kit that will remove that puppy! It'll hook the back edge of the drum. Don't stick a pry bar 'tween the drum and backing plate. You might bend the backing plate Stick with wez guyz and we'll have yeah doin' laps 'tween Bristol and Memphis in no time, Jer
I have not shown any sympathy to drum - let me tell you I was hammering with my sledge hammer and and I did try a pry bar a few times, I will take your advice and get the dent puller this evening, Harbor freight is close by. I appreicate everyones comments and advice
Their are two little pins at 3:00 and 9:00 and they are held in place with a spring and "Keeper" set up to hold the shoes in place on the backing plate. They look like nail haeds from the back side. CHISEL those nail heads off and and those drums will almost fall off!The only thing left will really be the Parking brake cable attachments, Jer
I remember seeing those and one of them was ( 3:00 ) was loose, I will chisel them off this evening. You guys have been great so far keep the info coming
These brakes are drums right? Is there a slot on the back of the backing plate to get at the adjusting star? Maybe I missed that part in this thread, lol?
Chiseled off the retaining pins and the shoes will still not let go of the drums, both sides still. I am maybe thinking the shoe is hung in a groove at the top an thats why it will not release. I cannot get to the adjuster from the back side of the drum either. I have never had a drum stuck this bad before.
pry bars and a big hammer, take off spindle nut,pry and hit, pry and hit, repeat as needed. Just got through all that with the fairlane i obtained recently. Parts you need can probably be found, half the fun of building is the parts chase. Body looks good I'm sure someone makes floor pans that will work , in the package area you might have to get creative.Have fun and enjoy.
Took all day and hitting and prying but both drums removed, shoes and adjusters were pitiful, drums back on and even found two tire for $ 40.00. . WOW that was really tough
AIN'T IT FUN OWNING OLD CARS, GLAD IT WORKED OUT.IT'S A WORK OF LOVE, OR SHOULD BE. GOOD LUCK ON THE REST OF IT :2_thumbs_up_-_anima:2_thumbs_up_-_animaYOU'LL NEEDIT PAPA
