Wow, must be spring, the Ford Galaxies are starting to turn up on eBay!

Not mine, don't know the owner:

Anyone care to speculate on what has been done to the rear cargo area? This certainly isn't original!

And I notice that the chrome rain gutter running around the roof has been painted. Why would someone do this? Too lazy to tape? :slap:

That would be FORD Motor Corp that was too lazy to tape...
The base SEDAN came with color drip moulding..

Looks like someone ordered that car specifically being as it has
a few power options but base trim..

Interesting question about the drip rail. I have not seen one that was anything but sheet metal painted the color of the car.

This one is no show car but it appears to be in good shape. I would hope this car would bring $14,500.

Now is really not a good time to sell mine. There are some pretty nice cars popping up and I still think they are bargains; time will tell.

My most humble apologies to the owner of this car on eBay, and thanks to Xenon and 64CS! :tiphat: I am more familiar with the Country Squire, which had the chrome drip rails.

I see, thanks to what I've learned from alphues, that this car has the remote driver's side rear view mirror!

Just out of curiosity, is anyone on this forum bidding on this car? Current bid price is up to $8,601, reserve still not met.

This car has been re-listed, beginning at $9,000 with a buy-it-now price of $10,500.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_500wt_1182

My guess is that the reserve is around $10,000.

Do you all think this is a $10,000 car?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this looks like a sheet metal patch that didn't quite follow the original wheel well contours:

    Wheel well #1

    Compare it to this one:

    Wheel well #2

Also, both appear to be recent paint-overs of rusted metal.

    As does this picture:

    Rocker panel

Maybe I haven't kept up with inflation, but I would expect more from a $10k car?

As I stated in an earlier post "this is no show car".

I still say it should bring 14 if a buyer is truly interested in this model and has done some comparison and restoration research.

I am learning it is tough to bring the interior up to this quality, plus getting a quality paint job on these is not cheap.

I don't think I could find a nicer one for that price range. Sure a person might find a cheaper one or one in better condition but I am learning it will be impossible to duplicate this car for less.

Note - I am not campaigning for the sale of this car in anyway, I just think early 60s wagons are still undervalued.

Thanks 64CS, I appreciate your comments. I agree, the interior of this car looks great. It would probably be near impossible to find another 48-year old car in such good condition. I'm certainly not up to date on the costs of restoring a '64.

When I look at the pictures of this car I just think it would have been so much better if it had not been repainted, so that prospective buyers could see what the original condition of the sheet metal was (or is).

Most of these wagons were real work-horses for families in the '60s. So it's probably rare to find one that's not been beaten down. Mine carried everything from 2 x 4 lumber, sheets of plywood, bags of cement, bathtubs ... not to mention groceries and kids! And yet my '64 is still out there, somewhere - it was sold at a Classic Car auction in Toronto, Ontario in April '08, but the final buyer is still unknown to me. Still trying to track it down! :)

Thanks Codeblu - do you know if it's for sale on one of the internet web sites? If so, please post a link to it.

If you happen to see it and take some pictures, please post those too - although you might want to start another thread for this car.

The Orlando, FL wagon sold for $9k on its second time around on eBay - only 1 bid, and that bid was made at the opening price.
