Im looking at a Pontiac Grand Lemans Stion Wagon. Tailights show 1974. Very little is known about the car at this point. Owner may want to move on it. It DOES have an engine,Front end is supported by blocks, making it look as though the motor has been yanked, but it is there.. What might something like this be worth and whats the MOST I should offer?

Depends if it runs or not. If not, tell him that you'll pay to tow it out for him.

    If it runs...... $500?

I would agree with That Mopar Guy but I like Pontiac's are getting harder to find.I would base it on if it runs and how good, what size engine I think the GL mostly came with a 350 Pontiac engine you can look on the lower left side of the block and it should be stamped what size engine. I would ask the owner if it's For Sale and how much he would take for it then work it out from there.

Just don't go over there with a hard on for it. Don't tell him you are a collector. Then it will suddenly become a "rare classic".

Just tell him you need something easy to fix up and that you are on a budget.

I would also bring cash in hand when making the offer.... Less chance of him changing his mind or jacking up the price. Made that mistake once!

    man...tuff question!!
cars are worth more and less depending on where you are!
    if that was here...i dunno...a couple hundred?...mind you...I know of a cherry one...that he wants 5 grand for!!...so?...;)
how much rust is in it?...does eveything work?...does he have the titles for it?
...too many variables to estimate its value from here!

    was that muddy enuff??:biglaugh:

Well, I see its an Arizona car and appears to be very solid. Also seems like an oddly optioned car as well. I notice that despite being the Grand LeMans wagon, it lacks the 3rd seat and woodgrain options, so it may be a little more rare in those matters. Most of the Grand LeMans had the 3rd seat and woodgrain, but not all.

I would get it if I were you.

How much will you have to spend to get it to where you would like it?

    How I got mine

    Hi there,

I just traded my 91 BMW 320 sedan with 17 inch rims and stainless exhaust etc to a 1974 Chevrolet Malibu Classic Station Wagon.

Now these cars are hard to find.

But the beemer is alreadt loosing its interrest cause so many cars are imported from Germany....

    I´d say My gain.

I´d say, couple hundred bucks and up, like here said earlier it depends on many different aspects...the price I mean.

But You guys gave good advice, like don´t be too eager, seller will pick that up and the price just went up a notch.

I´ll be sure to post some pics later of my rides...

that might be a 75, check for a cat converter. if it is a 74 then it would have dual exhaust trans crossmember. those could have came with 455's, 400's in 74. 455 car i'd grab it for the 500.00. 350 car.400.00 the way it sits, depending on the interior. seems solid enough.............and you could throw a grand prix center console and seats in it to make it cooler. that was an option on these cars also. (lemans sport coupe int.)

I agree with what the Local Pontiac Longroof Guru has said, the Grand Lemans Wagons could have a 350, 400, or 455 in the in 74 & 75. But I thought they were Luxery Lemans's in 73 & 74, And Grand Lemans's in 75, 76, & 77. So if it is solid, and the interior is decent, $500.00 sounds fair. Let me know if you need any interior parts, I have a few left over from my 73 & 77 parts cars.

I'm suprised the city hasn't made him move it yet for an ordinance violation.

Crusher's are giving 400 bux WITH the cat for any junk now however BUT if it were me, 100 bux and you tow it IF it's all there.

Doesn't look like that much to me bo', just my opine.

    Well its been awhile but...

I am finally gonna be able to get this beast.I have been talking to the owner off and on since I posted about this car last year. It was always one excuse after another on why I couldnt just come pay him the money and haul it off.. The guy FINALLY got the car cleaned out and then he lost my phone number. I called him last week to follow up and im going over tomorrow to finalize the deal(hopefully hell show up and wont feed me more excuses). We have a time of noon setup to meet where the car is at. Ill be sure to call him prior to renting the Uhaul,so im not wasting my time and money.

The owner says hes been offered $250 for the car,I told him Id pay that for it,but that was (geez) a long time ago. Ill go over with $200 cash in hand and see if he'll bite,Ill have the other $50 in one of my back pockets,in case his memory is fresh. The guy doesnt have a title for the car,but I can easily get a "Bonded" one.

The car has been out of the system for at least 6 years(last registered in 1996) so they get purged when they are inactive for 7 years, and theres never any history on them after this long, so a title shouldnt be hard to obtain. A bond will cost me $50 through my insurance company and the car will be mine.

The story I get on the car is that its a 1975 Pontiac Grand Lemans Safari with a 400-4V. The front seat is REALLY rough like the exterior of the seat melted away showing the foam underneath, and the hood had a carpet laying on it for many years ,so theres some surface rust there and on the core support where the emission decal is at. The body appears straight otherwise and all the glass is good. The car appears totally solid other than what I have described.

Not sure of what im gonna do with it yet though.Ill try to get it running and go from there. Oh by the way, does anyone know the production numbers on this particular car?
