:Welcome:, Johnnie! Very wise of you to upload some pictures first, before the picture police would be here! ;)
Nice, clean wagon you have there! Are those matching colors with the Elky?

Well it has the stock 305 sbc mated to a th350 trans which i plan to leave as is.as for the exterior The plans are to do a modern woodie which can best be desribed by a rendering that was done for me.The brown you see in the middle of the car is what will be the vinyl wood i plan to keep the TTII wheels.

I'm planning on building my own woodie with real wood for my next project. You ought to check out some of the Architectural Veneers. They make them with a type of adhesive that's used on French Polished pianos and boardroom tables. Especially since you're in Southern California AND you don't have curved wheelwell lips like mine. You could blow the socks off all the show-goers with a burled maple or walnut or a tight luminescent acacia grain (you move and it changes colour) Acacia is a wetlands forest tree and handles humidity and strong sunlight like a charm. Plus, the real stuff costs less per square foot. The Marine varnishes are recommended by a lot of the SoCal folks for their woodies too.

I'd like to combine the front nose from a Cord and the back end of a Phaeton roof line, with two spares mounted behind the front wheelwells, more or less. That's the concept right now, anyway.

I started a thread on some old details and new finishes and I think I stuck a couple of sketches, but there's a lot about finishes in there too:

Love your plans for it, one of the cleanest GM ever turned out!(y)

Change feet Normie! Foot in mouth again! :whew:

Your wheelwells are curved! That's a bandsaw job to make moulding from solid wood unless you know how to steam-form it! :D

LOL Yes Norm for this build on the 80 i will keep it neat and simple,But if down the road i decide to go with a 60's 50's 40's or even 30's wagon I may go that route.I'de really like to see that acacia you are talking about though..

    A few sites: :D

    http://www.mbveneer.com/lexicon-specieslist.cfm

Some come from China, Australia, and even Texas! Run down through the whole page:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acacia

    Macadamia tree is a cousin:
    http://www.hobbithouseinc.com/personal/woodpics/macadamia.htm

Veneer companies are notorious for playing with wood names. Acacia comes from Latin 'Acacea' and also 'Robinia' so lots of trees are related. Lacewood is one of those:
