Yup...I love this car. There was a Maverick dealer in Brazil that concepted, built and sold these wagons all on his own. The guy had a great idea and a great eye!
Thanks for posting Silver Fox, I just went and re read the Thread again and I missed the Parked for 37 years part... Hey GTW was there a Lemon involved in the decision to park it? ie. Broke and didn't have the cash to repair... God I can so relate to that statement right now...... And Again
Along with the Maverick, the Torino was used on a mail route, and that's where the tranny broke. It only had reverse left, so we backed it up to the house and it sat there for about 2 years. (the location in the pics) Out of laziness we parked it until we could get another transmission and never did. Around 1983 my dad decided he wanted to rebuild the motor but never finished. It wasn't parked for 37 years, it was parked for 32. The car will be 40 years old in November of this year. I've attached some pics of what the Maverick looks like today, the license plate we had on the wagon when it was still being driven, the photo from 1977, and how it sat from 1980-2003 when we finally put a decent cover on it.
WOW Glad to hear your going to try and get it back on the road... Thanks for taking the time to tell the story and post Pics...
No problem. The neighbors actually tried to burn the car while we were out eating in the summer of 1979. Luckily it was covered in leaves and there's only some burn marks on the hood.
Welcome to the forum! Cool wagon, don't see very many Torino wagons anymore. Some neighbors you must have had!
Thanks guys. I'm slowly making progress on it. Actually, that isn't the only wagon I own. I daily a BMW 5 series wagon and have 3 Suburbans (if they count).
GTW Glad to hear you are gonna fix up the old wagon. I love those Torino wagons. I know about letting things sit till next year. Have several that have been sitting way too long. Sadly doesn't look like next year will ever get here. Good luck on your projects.
