Can anyone help me track down the rubber and windshield for my 2 door plymouth? Had it pulled for paint and body without finding the replacement rubber and the body guy broke the glass. Live and learn. But, this is the biggest thing keeping me from driving the car. Any help appreciated.
Don't know if they'll have it, but you could try Steele Rubber Parts for the gasket for a start. I know most glass shops can get new windshields for 60's cars, but don't know about 50's cars. You might just need to get a used one from a salvage yard, but that would be a very difficult thing to ship without breakage. Once you find someone who has the rubber, you should be able to find out if the wagon windshield is the same one used on hardtops and sedans, and if its the same one used for the 55-56 Dodge as well. If so, then you'll at least have a better chance of finding one.
The front windshield and the door glass is all that is available, far as rubber goes. I had a '56 Plymouth two-door wagon, and searched high and low for rubber for that car. You are going to have to match it up to something that is commercially available, like at an RV store, or a store that handles hot rod stuff. The side glass rubbers are nowhere to be found. Good luck.
Steele rubber DOES have it.. They just did not know it. You have to ask for a dodge post car windshield rubber, either with chrome or not. Had a helpful sales person yesterday that verified.
Great! Glad to hear they had it. Once you get the glass, your headache still won't be over. You will need to call every auto glass shop in the book to find one that still knows how to install the old style windshields and gaskets so that they don't leak. If whatever glass shop you use doesn't provide the new windshield, find out what responsibility they will accept if they break your glass during the install. I've had my own problems with new glass and new gaskets leaking due to installers who no longer know how to do these installs correctly, and i've seen worse stories on other forums for 60's Mopar A and B bodies of problems with leaks or breakage by glass shops. http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?t=32628
After this much time and effort a broken glass will make things ugly. I will go in hoping for the best.
By the way, I posted some reference picts in my Garage. I have not shot anything else in years. I will try to do a in progress series as I get to work on it more.
ha....that figures...my guys do the 54 Burb...but not the 55... http://www.classic-new.com/classic.htm#plymouth
