We were talking about vehicles you like other then Tri-5s on Chevy Talk. I mentioned a guy from Dayton, OH used to own 60 - 59 Cadillacs including a Wagon. Some posted there were no Cadillac Wagons from the 1950s or otherwise. I remembered a company called Miller Meteor used to make ambulances and hearses from Cadillacs. I thought you guys might like to read a bit about the company? http://www.coachbuilt.com/bui/m/miller_meteor/miller_meteor.htm this building is still there, but the business is not.
I like that site! I go there when I need some new ideas. I don't know of any other industry that lived in a pressure cooker to come up with new twists every 12 months. I'm planning on building a real woody, so when I get in the mood, I sit down on my Cad program and tweak a few things. Some of the old cars had better ideas and tech, than today.
Don't laugh too hard. I was thinking about making my own mouldings in Ash and then redoing the vinyl in real wood veneer. You can buy it with the self-adhesive for furniture and treated for outdoors. I could steam the wheel wells, but I think they'd warp, so I'd probably bandsaw the shapes from solid wood and then insert a PVC bumper where the Ford groove is, like yours. The odds of me finding any of the mouldings are slim to none.
Yeah. He knows his wood, alright. I've been there a few times. I used to own and run a grandfather and wallclock factory in the early 80's, but car woodwork is really different than interior commercial or home furnishings. I'm itching to get to making a mockup, but the black-hole of home renos and repairs kinda has me in knots (not wooden knots) for this season.
Actually RJ we've never strayed on this topic. Miller Meteor made custom coaches. Then we got in to a discussion about customizing wagons. As you can see it's all still the same subject. Just slightly different material. Wood vs Metal. So, I have to disagree. This thread wasn't hi-jacked. Great history lesson on Miller Meteor.
OK (Disclaimer here) THIS THREAD IS OFFICIALLY......HIJACKED ............................................................ --- Tell me about it. Currently on the "to do" list.... -- New outlets / light switch in spare bedroom for cousin's daughter who's moving in -- Stain and install crown moldings / chair rail / baseboard moldings to match trim in new adjacent kitchen -- Redo attic space in garage to hold more 'stuff' -- Clean carpets and restretch to eliminate lumps (will probably hire this out) -- Fix water spot on living room ceiling (roof leak probably) -- Overhaul sprinklers in from yard ( haven't worked in years ) -- Exterminate crab grass in front yard And this is just off the top of my head. I'm sure WE ALL have a list much like this...... Right, guys? ..................................................... We now return you to your previously scheduled topic......
Okay. I'll agree the thread wasn't offically hijacked. Till the last post. I wasn't sure if any of you ever heard of Miller Meteor before or not? I tend to run in to (not literally mind you) a lot of younger people on the net. And since I'm still kind of new to this site I have no idea what the average age of the members here, is as of yet?
