    RE: 1991-96 Roadmaster and Caprice

You see a lot of stuff about LT1 Corvette engines in these cars. Were there engine changes from year to year? What were they?

    Thanks.

    1991 LO3 (305 TBI)
    1992-1993 LO3, LO5 (350 TBI) can't remember if they dropped the 305 in 1993 or not
    1994-1996 LT1 (350 MPFI)

The LT1 in the Corvette was rated at 300hp and ran aluminum heads. The LT1 in the full size cars was rated at 260hp and had cast iron heads.

    I believe they had a "baby" LT-1 which is a tuned-port 267 CI 4.3 from '93-'96 also.
Know they were on the Squads as standard, as the LT-1 was an option.
Only the tag on the core support designated the difference, unless you decoded the vin.
Cops hated them - no balls, in comparison!!

I think the L99 was only available in the sedans and not in the wagons.

    1st one I saw was in a wagon - but it was also a squad - - -
Don't know if it was 'publically available'.

    I've got an L99 in my 9C1.
It's a great engine, more practical, IMHO, than the LT1.

9C1= Chevy's code for cop car.

The L99 was only available in Chevy Caprice sedans from '94-'96. There's a roomer of 1 or 2 L99 Caprice wagons, but it's just a roomer.

8th # in the vin# is the engine code. P= 5.7 LT1, W= 4.3 L99. Easiest way to tell the difference, the L99's came with single exhaust only.

mike L, that is no rumor. iirc fred found out that there was 1 factory L99 caprice wagon built as a test mule. but it was deemed unfeesable.

i had a sedan with an L99. it has ok power..better than the LO5. its not an LT1, but as andy said... it is more practial. my buick gets 16-18 around town but my caprice sedan with the L99 got 20-22 around town. i wish i would have kept it...the caprice wagon i have now gets 15mpg.
