5:30AM radia said over 6000 with out power, 7AM radia said over 20000 with out power, 8AM we lost power at work, 9AM called it a day and came home. Don't know what the wind speed gusts got up to but what a drive this AM, van getting shoved all over. Got on my back roads and lots of big branches down, had to get out and move one. crap all over the roads. And a bummer AM for some one, about a 1/2 mile from our industrial erea I pass by a old farm house thats rite on the road and a big ol tree is laying on top of both of there cars. Just raining now, no wind. I just called work to see if there is any point returning, no power yet so it's a lazy inside day today. Krash, did you guys get a storm this AM?
Last Thursday was the really windy day for us in northern Virginia. At work, a gust of wind caught the metal and glass front door, ripped it off it's hinges and shattered the glass all over the parking lot. Till replacement parts arrive for the glass shop to fix it, we barricade the door opening with an old conference table and back the truck up against it. I'm sitting at my desk with the breeze coming in today. At least its not cold out. 68 is the high today and 70 tomorrow. This time of year it could have just as easilly been 28 and 30, so I'm feeling lucky today.
No big storm, but it is a bit windy. Nothing bad at all, though. Might be a bit worse over on the coast. I'm 60 miles inland.
I've been cleaning up a lot of wind debris at my sister's house last couple weeks. It just seems we're having a lot more severe weather events than we used to?
Up here the windstorms are a common thing, strong ones probably every 2-3 months. No hurricanes or large tornadoes, but it's common to get straight line winds matching that of a category 1 hurricane. I believe the record is 130 mph. Every storm leaves downed trees everywhere and pieces of my roof on the ground. But it's just business as usual for us. I'm sure it's happened but I haven't heard anywhere else of a small car getting blown over the railing of a bridge. Just over a week ago we had the worst storm of the season. Snapped off trees everywhere, and the final tally was about 250,000 without power. They are still getting power back to some folks. My grandma's house had a tree that fell and ripped the meter off her house. My wife's folks had a tree that fell and ripped the power line off their house.
It's ridiculously nice here. Supposed to up to summertime temps by the end of the week. All the ice and snow is melting, it's like May, really weird. If this is global warming bring it on.
Glad everyone is ok up there! Supposed to be low 80's all this week here in Texas...that's warm even for us this time of year. Thankfully no storms forecasted. Stay safe all! -Mike
