There are 146k+ miles on it... It had 135k when we bought it... It is a 2.4L 4 banger, DOHC, automatic with sports mode... IIRC, it has two coil packs for the sparks. I haven't moved the car. Been a bad day and I'm sorry to say that it won't be getting a diagnostic until tomorrow if I can't swing it this afternoon. Here in a bit I will go out and get some pics of it without the plastic cover.
Heres a good link to the codes once you get them read http://www.kia-forums.com/do-yourself/33370-all-kia-trouble-codes.html
Nice clean lookin engine. Wouldn't think that little thing would cause all these headaches. I suggest a small stick of dynamite just above the #16 and run like hell!
Maybe if some one payed me a few thousand to do it... I spent two days cleaning that engine after we got the high pressure line on the power steering replaced after it had been leaking for months. The engine looks as clean as it did when we bought the car. Oh and I checked the radiator. It hadn't leaked in awhile. I didn't add anything it just stopped leaking... Well it is down again. I haven't found any evidence of fluid on the ground.
Dont get me wrong. We love the KIA. We dont love what has happened to it. I didnt know it when we bought it but who ever had it to begin with treated it like it was a tank/ferrari hybrid that never needed maintenance. If we didnt love this poor abused car we would have ditched it a long time ago rather than learning so much about it and fixing it up. We just want it running right and to go to a good and loving home...
Thank You!!! I remember when we took it to our mechanic to get a tune up he mentioned that one of the coils looked like it might be going out. We didn't have the time and the money to get that done too so we said we would wait. Then we forgot about it. That would explain the problems wouldn't it? I need to look into how much they cost and I need to figure out which one it is. I should be able to fix that on my own no problem.
No "but" and that seems logical to me too. And they should be pretty inexpensive. Buy one and swap it. If it still runs badly, swap the one you removed with the remainder. At least that is how I fix things and have been generally spot on most of the time.
Could likely be the problem. But, if it isn't and he installs that new coil, he now owns it. Replacing parts to diagnose a problem can get expensive real fast. In any case, I hope the coil is the problem.
