i have been slowly chipping away at installing my security/start system in my 1993 roadmaster wagon.
if you wanna see more about it (it aint your run of the mill system), check it out at
    http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp~TID~130776

the12volt is alot like this site except its car electronics guys.
there is a thing i call DefHack i did and it lets me turn the car on defost with the remote after it starts.
you 91-93 guys with remote starts know what im talking about.
i may turn this post into the breakdown of how to do it if there is any interest.
please no PMs. lets keep all Q&As open for all to see!

as for hacking the controls to be able to defrost by remote. first you must have an extra channel on your brain.
if you dont, dont fret. there is still a way to get around that issue on most units that do door locks and trunk pop.
you can wire a relay's ground wire to the "- during remote start" wire that will reroute the trunk popper wire from the trunk relay to a second relay, the "DefHack" relay.
once this "DefHack" relay is added, any time you hit the trunk button while the car is running under remote start control, you will turn on the defroster.
my car automatically engages defroster when stating during the winter and is also able to do at will by remote. you will most likely not have that luxury unless you really want to get into a deeper realm of installation.

the "rerouting" relay wires like this.
85 to ground during remote start
    86 to 12v constant
30 to brains trunk popper wire
87a to the tronk popper relay
87 to the 85 terminal "DefHack" relay
then you wire the "DefHack" relay this way...
of course we said 85 comes from the reroute relay
    86 to 12v constant
30 goes to "#7" in the following picture
    87a is not used
87 goes to #11 in the picture.

i traced #7 & #11 from the actual buttons on my climate controls. i also traced the rear defrost too as you can see #10 in the picture.
having seperate contacts close 7 & 11 together after the car has ran for about 20 seconds turns it on defrost.
using a dpdt relay as your "DefHack" relay so you can 7 & 10 also close for a moment turns one the rear glass/outside mirror defrost on too!

what i did was chased those wires to that ribbon then carfully stripped the jacket, wrapped the appropriate relay wire to it, soldered, and carefully taped it.
