Hello My name is Dan and I enjoy all kinds of american cars. I own two 96 Roadmaster estate wagons, two Ford Rancheros (74 and 79 I have had those refered to as wagons with the roof cut off) and a 2009 Dodge charger. The one roadmaster wagon My wife and I bought brand new in 96 and we have put 250,000 miles on it and still using it today. Both of my kids have learned how to drive on it and my son will have when he gets his license in Aug of this year. My Daughter liked the car so much she went out and bought her own! (that explains Roadmaster #2) The second one we bought last year and I am in the process of taking care of things that you would expect to fix on a 15+ year old car. All of us in our family really enjoy these rides. I also enjoy many of the old Ford wagons. I would like to get my hands on a 72-76 torino or montego wagon someday and make a "sport wagon" version bucket seats, console rally gauges set up like the torino sports of the day. I am primarily a ford guy but enjoy all cars. These Roadmaster wagons have been without a doubt one of the the most comfortable and fast (for there size) cars we have ever owned. That is why after 250,000 miles I have had a hard time thinking about the day the old "rolling sofa" as we all call it will meet its end. But knowing myself I will have another one (a wagon) lined up! Take care and thanks for having me here Dan
Photos soon! Thanks all for the welcome. As far as photos i will take some and post the two wagons soon. Our old dark cherry colored Roadmaster is really showing it's age (at 250,000 it might I would imagine) the one my daughter bought 96 roadmaster woodie with sand color looks much nicer.
to the wagon train, Dan. A Ford man with 2 Roadies! Well...sounds like you have a Ford plan in the wings. Glad you found us!
OK as promised I am posting some photos of the two roadmaster wagons. The first one we bought new and at 250,000 miles she is still taking good care of us. While we do have other cars to depend on this one is still a favorite. this one also has the trailer tow package.
This is the one my 18 year old daughter bought (yes 18 year old girl wanted a wagon)! This one is pretty clean except it needs under carrage attention. This one sat somewhere wet so I am working on that now. also as an added note this was one of the "cash for clunker cars" that got away!!! (don't ask me how lets just be happy it survived) this one has 187,000 miles on the clock and the engine purrs like a kitten at idle and roars like a lion when you stick your foot in it (just like a good LT1 should). Everything electronic works like it should and drives down the road great. The brakes and lines all will need replacing and the rear end cover is rusted through (pin holes) and the axle seals are leaking. Again all this is very fixable. (have all the parts just making time to do the work)
Nice pix, Dan! WOW...a DCM wood delete LT1 Roady....very nice. You would never know it has a quarter million miles on it! I'm VERY pleased that your young daughter is interested in wagons and has purchased one! I hope her owning one will sway her young friends to look for wagons as well. It should after they ride in it. These cars ride like a dream and have snort for their size. Thanks for the great pix.
Many of her and my sons freinds really dig our wagons. all of these kids were "minivan" kids and most didn't even know what a wagon was until they rode in ours. All of the kids even today like to ride in the rear facing back seat. Pretty funny to see a bunch of 18/19 year old girls calling the "back seat" so they can sit rear facing.
Great lookin pictures Dan. Now you reminded me why we left Illinois !:2_thumbs_up_-_anima I think it's great that the younger kids are getting to see and ride in a real car. Maybe a few of them will also buy a wagon. We have to keep this hobby alive.
