Just awesome pics IMO by unknown auther.....Click on pics to enlarge. Heber City , Utah . Union Pacific 2-8-0 N°618 and a 1953 Buick Super. This has to be the classic of classic photos! It defies time itself. When I saw this photo, I was transported back to those wonderful days when life was full of simple pleasures, back when we were satisfied with less and happy to walk instead of ride. This is February 6, 2007 when time and eternity intersect at this crossing. And to think that you and I, and others, once had a stage like this every day for the greatest performance ever. Oh what the generation of today has missed. Great Memories! Those are spectacular! That first one particularly would look good on my den/office wall. Where are these from?
Heber is just amazing, the scenery takes your breath away. I think thats a big reason why I stay in this goofy state. Awesome pics Tedy! You're right it is a time forgotten by these modern folks.
Growing up at the end of our street was a set of train tracks and once a year they would have a old train come thru town. You would here it blowing the whistle and adults and children alike would run to the end of the street to see it coming thru town slowly waving as they passed. The adults were just as excited as us kids to see the black smoke billowing towards the sky for miles. Makes me smile just thinking about it, thanks for refreshing that memory for me Tedy
I'm in love with this thread... need more... need more... need more....................... /////////WARNING\\\\\\\\\ : Brain has officially seized. /////////WARNING\\\\\\\\\
Of course this one is pretty famous, and has been posted here before. ...and this one, not so much. Its in my attic.
Memories! I don't know if us older members should feel lucky or not to have those memories of the past. There was a small switch area only a block west of where I grew up. We could lay in bed and hear the trains switching cars and then heading off in either direction for miles. Every day, as we walked to school, we had to wait for one of those steam engines to pass and do some switching. Trains were a part of everyones life years ago. We had to wait on them. watch them pass along side the highways, pour coal dust and smoke down on us as we stood or sat in our cars. I can almost feel the ground shake and hear those whistles blowing. Thanks.
Great pics Tedy! I remember seeing an excursion vintage steam train chug down the tracks though Locust Grove, GA on its way to Savannah one Sat AM. We first saw the steam rising in the distance over the trees, then heard it, then felt it thunder by, it was an awesome site. The setting was perfect also with some old homes along the track. I'll have to see if I can find any photos.
Damn good stuff Teddy. My uncle AL is so hardcore into model railroading that he bought a 85x14 foot house trailer, gutted all the walls out of it and has it completely filled with trains and landscaping. Beautiful stuff he has built. I will see if I can get some pics when I get home to share.
