    A general question:

My 84 CS never had jump seats in the back. The two flip doors are there but they only opened up to an empty cargo hold. I remember back when my family had a '74 CS and even before that a '67 CS, and they both had upholstered seats like many wagons seen here.

I never gave it a thought until now, but did Ford discontinue the installation of seats in the back for safety reasons, or were they an option? This car was bought new by my grandfather as he always had Ford wagons.

    Ideas? Thanks!

yeah, i think it was a no cost option or a delete option, so most DID have the jump seat. berniecaco (sp) has an 89 merc colony park that is loaded but is a wood delete/jump seat delete car. Talk about odd options.

Yes, they were an option but had a cost to them, as I recall something like $250. I ordered the inventory for the Ford Dealership I ran back then and I would order just a few without them for the cost savings. One of my salesladies sold a silver one and after they finished the paperwork, they were going over the vehicle. She pulled up the doors to reveal it had no seats and the customer started yelling and screaming thinking we were trying to rip him off. Obviously, we had to sell him another Country Squire.

As a kid I always thought they were a rare option. My dad bought a new Ford every few years. His 60 Ford Country Sedan didn't have a seat in the way back. Neither did his 71 Country Squire. Of all the wagons Dad had over the years, only his 77 Country Squire had seats back there, and they were never used as long as we had the car.

    Thanks, gang!

I never knew that about those being an option. I get the feeling he bought this car off the lot without ordering. It does not have the vent windows on the front doors, either. Too bad as those create a nice look.

I've also seen some CS's of the same year (or close) with the carriage light between the front and rear doors on the sides. Those really create a nice effect as well!
