Grreetings wagon folk, After 20 days of waiting on the transport company, my estate wagon finally arrived from California. Picked it up and drove it home. I could tell the car had been sitting for a while. Brakes are touchy, could use a tune-up, etc. etc. Cruise control works. AC doesn't. No really big surprises to speak of. The ride was smooth and surprisingly quiet. I have now started the painstaking task of giving it a good thorough cleaning like it has never had before. I was disappointed to see that I won't be able to save the woodgrain because of the dents and dings here and there. Is there a source for woodgrain for Buick wagons of this vintage? I have yet to locate anything. If I can't locate the woodgrain, I may have to paint the entire car. Any help would be appreciated. Also, is there a good source for carpet? I only need one small piece of carpet for the rear cargo area. Maybe 1' x 2.5'. Will post photos after it's detailed.
I had found a few sites: http://www.woodgrain4wagons.com/ http://www.ytmag.com/pbwork/messages/2434.html Not cheap, but they do look really nice!
If all that is needed is a small piece like that, I'd just take a sample of what you're looking for, or the whole car if you can drive it, over to a local auto upholstery shop and see what they might have in their shop-floor cuttings or what they might be able to order you a yard or two of that matches what you need.
Can't wait to see it, prof! I've said it in many threads so I will be brief here....finding matching woodgrain that is suitable for exposure to the elements is, perhaps, the most elusive part of a wagon resto. I have never seen ANY that match. None.
Congrats! Nothing cooler than getting your hands on a new-to-you wagon. Don't keep us waiting, let see some pics!
