what is a body to do with these (so called) drivers that feel the asphlat was put there for their sole purpose?

I have come across aleast four different types of Ramp Racers, and in no particular order, here they are...

    1)The true Ramp Racer:
Not long ago I was on my way home, I'm heading down the ramp, there is a smaller car behind me, I start to pick up speed when I notice this semi barrelling down the hwy, he can't move over to let me on because another car is passing beside him. So I slow down abit to give them time to go by. When I start to speed up again the car that was behind me pulls out slames on the gas, he can't move over into the left lane cause there are other cars already there, so he passes by me I have no place to go but the gravel...rrrrrrr This is not the first time the type of incident has happened.

    2)The slow Ramp Racer:
Last week I was on the hwy, going to work, when I come to this hill that has an on ramp. There is another semi two cars ahead of me. He is slowly lossing speed because of the hill and there is three cars coming down the on ramp. Me and the car in front move to the left to let these three onto the hwy, behind the semi. The last of these three car is a young woman driving a pickup truck. She dives in front of me, I'm going 110kms, she's going about 80kms(if that)rrrrr. It's actually amazing how many things reflexes can do all at the same time...punch the brake, hunk the horn, check the mirror, swerve and call her a name all at the same time...idiot!

3)You find your own space Ramp Racer:
These Ramp Racers are the ones that won't let you back over to the right after you moved to the left to let them on the hwy! Your already going faster then them because your on the hwy, they're on the ramp. But they pick up speed so quickly that they are now travelling beside you. So you try going a bit faster so you can move back over. But they just keep picking up speed...so now it's a race...you win, I'll slow down and move in behind you...jack***.

    4)Fabulous timing Ramp Racer:
Then of course there are the ones that pull out to pass you, then time their pull over to the right, in front of you, to coincide with exiting the hwy onto the off ramp.

I guess I just don't understand these people. But if any of you are out there looking in right now here is a little bit of reading for you...

We all pay taxes that build these roads. They do not belong to just you. The other vehicles that you come upon while your driving, are not just obstacles, they have people in them!

i drive a truck and i noticed that there is another ramp racer if you drive a truck.

omg! i simple cannot be stuck behind the truck ramp racer: when you are in a truck on a ramp they have to get out and in front of you regardless of the danger. i have seen people drive up the shoulder to get around me on a ramp. really? you cant use the 4 lanes of the highway to pass?

and related to the above but not a ramp racer

the rude "im better than you" merger. :

we have a highway that goes from 3 lanes to 2. And as you can expect, during rush hour it backs up here. well the LAW when merging is you take your turn...if done correctly traffic flows and cars come together like a zipper. well when i am in the middle lane the guy in front of me lets 1 car in and we keep moving, then i let 1 car in. while i am letting the 1 car in the a$$hole in the BMW is trying to push his way in in front of me too. so i just keep moving, nearly removing his bumper and drivers side fender. then he drives up the shoulder and takes advantage of my slower acceleration shoving the nose of his car firmly between me and the car in front of me. causing me to slam on my brakes and further angering me when he has the nerve to shoot me the finger. i wish you were allowed to ram people!

I am a ramp racer and I am not ashamed to admit it. I don't get wreckless and run people off the road doing it, but I am a control freak and I cannot stand to follow anyone. What I hate (I am a Class A CDL holder also) is a truck driver who will not get the hell out of the slow lane to allow cars who are merging to enter, I can understand when there is something coming up on him from the left lane, but 99 out of 100 times, there isn't and he just blocks off the merging area with his 80 feet of moving ignorance! So sorry Ian, when I am coming up the on ramp and I see a truck, I am flat footing my vehicle to get infront of him. Around where I lived, its up and down hills and most ramps merged on a hill, so the trucks were going slow or slowing down due to the incline. When I am going somewhere, get the hell out of my way, the second I have a chance to pass someone and its safe to pass, even if they are doing the speed limit, I don't care, I am gone. I am a leader, not a follower.

What is up with the jack@$$ who can't seem to exceed 45 MPH on the on-ramp and attempts to merge into 60+ MPH traffic at that speed??? :slap:

I am always stuck behind this jerk. :banghead3:

My luck is getting behind these same puttz's when they try to merge with an a-hole trucker who wont move to the empty left lane, who is usually loosing speed because of the incline and the idiot doing 45mph then needs to slam on the brakes. That's when it is OK to pass on the right, open it up and blow them all away on the berm of the road as you get your filling loosened from the rumble strips and give them both the flying bird out the window. :thumbs2: :rofl2::biglaugh:

    Hi!

When I drive my Torino, I generally drive under the limit. This is not because I intend to, but because it has a miss on cylinder 7 and because my tires are undersize. I have not been able to calculate how far off it really is and I don't care to at the moment. The last time I floored it, my car backfired. So I'm not flooring it until I get that miss taken care of.

I will admit I usually see 50-52mph by the time the ramp's curve ends and the solid white line starts. But I don't drive my car over 55-60mph, ever. And believe me, I get caught behind the same people even IN my Torino. They'll be doing the 40-45mph thing. It's really bad on I-35 in downtown Waco. Glad I'm not there anymore. You can merge with 60mph traffic at 50mph. You can NOT merge with 65mph traffic at 40mph.

Maybe so, Blackie! I'm pretty well known for letting my car out to make it happy, and me TOO, every once in awhile. At least once every time I drive it!:yup: I never beat a car but I do like to get it up and moving. I've slowed down a little as I got older, but, still get on it at least once when driving the wagon. It's just one of my great pleasures in life. I build 'em to use 'em.:yup:
Maybe the silverfox name comes from being able to stay under the radar.:biglaugh:

In my limited experience the racer that annoys me the most is the 'none of you matter' racer. This one, almost always a guy, will pass every one regardless on the on or off ramp and then jut into the traffic. I once saw a guy in a Charger do this. I had just gotten onto the on ramp and was accelerating, like one is supposed to, and he almost grazes my car shooting past me and the truck in front of me, which was also driving like they were supposed to. The Charger was practically off the road and going way too fast. He shot up the ramp and crossed both west bound lanes causing a minivan to go off into the medium hitting the large wooden posts that separate the opposing lanes of traffic. He shot down the highway at flat pedal speeds and disappeared. About ten mintues down the highway I saw his charger rolled over and smashed to $h!t on the side of the highway with emergency crews there. It sounds awful but there are a lot of drivers like that here... When I am on the on ramp I try to match speeds and I only slow down if there is not possible way to merge safely. When I do merge I get up to speed as quickly as possible and I try to never block any one unless I feel like there passing me would be hazardous. Luckily this has only happened once while I was on the highway. I am a safe driver by nature but I will not allow some one else to threaten the safety of others on the road. I can be a real @$$hole about driving safely and when it is fine to let loose. You got to remember that I live in the second worst driving state in America with number 1 just a few miles away. Oh yeah, bad driving abounds here. I will gladly kick any mofo's @$$ who threatens the safety of my family or others!

Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant. And i am also sorry if I offended any one in anyway. I just take my driving very seriously.

    -X

Wish I had thought of that for a title...

I guess I find these people, that use their cars to force their poor driving judgements onto others very dangerous, inconsiderate, rude and just being a bully.

But what can be done about it? That's the question?

Unfortunately most driver bullies not see what's wrong with the way they are driving until it's to late.

Here they're called tourists or fudgies. The charge up here for the weekend and back like packs of wild animals. They pass into oncoming traffic and run other cars off the road even when they're in plain sight. They're better than us and they know it because they've got money and we don't. You can usually tell because in addition to half of them having out of state plates, they've got expensive late model vehicles with ski racks, snowmobiles, luggage carriers, bicycles, dirt bikes, boats, campers..... and they're speeding and whipping all over with total disregard for their toys or for public safety. Once they're here it's drunk boating, drunk snowmobiling, obnoxious drunk parties, all that's ok if you're a tourist, then they charge down the highway back home while hung over from Saturday night's bash. Cops won't touch them with a 10 foot pole because they don't want to discourage tourist spending, but will nitpick us locals for something to do even though we are the ones obeying the law. As long as Michigan keeps insisting on remaining a tourist destination and shooing out real jobs in favor of making everything a tourist friendly resort, the local economy will remain in permanent depression, and the double standard will remain.
