Hi everyone! My name is Jeff and I love restoring and racing old station wagons. I have owned and restored 3 Pontiac wagons so far. The first one was a 71 Grand Safari 9-passenger. I rebuilt the original 455(325h.p.) with a 400TH. It was Cameo white with Sandalwood interior and had 80,000 original miles on it. I drove it to Cordova, Illinois Dragstrip, got 18mpg and ran a 15.06 @ 91mph. I sold the car in 2010. #2 is a Burgundy 83 Bonneville wagon I bought with 25,000 miles on it from a old man who hardly drove it. Out came the wheezy V-6 and in went a number of pontiac engines, I built. 1st was a 69 firebird 350 4bl., then a 75 Trans Am 400, and currently a 500h.p 455. I currently run 13.30's at 100mph with a 3.08 gear, and I drive it daily in the summertime. #3 is a 68 Tempest Safari that I bought a little over a year ago and is the same car I had been searching for, for over 10 yrs. The car was a 4 time AHRA Super Stock national record holder. I am currently about 75% finished with the restoration back to its former glory. I remember when I was a kid in the mid-seventies watching this wagon pull the wheels in the air and run High 10's in the Quarter. Seeing a wagon run like this is a memory you never forget. Maybe thats why I love them to this day. Anyhow, I don't mean to write a novel, but I just thought I would tell you a little about myself. I will post some pictures as soon as I can figure out how to do It. Thanks.
to the board brother spent my whole life on a dragstrip till about 6 years ago...just walked away from it lets see this ashpalt animal
welcome aboard, Pontpwr! I'm always glad to see another Pontiac fanatic join the group. Looking forward to seeing pictures. Still got that 350? It would be excellent in my Bonneville with the 200-4R that's sitting in the garage.
Thanks for the kind intro! Thanks guys for welcoming me. I did post some pictures of my 83 Bonneville in the garage area, hopefully I did it right. It seems i'm more at home building an engine than I am behind a computer board. Maybe someone can help me figure out how to get the pictures to come up here. I think i'm computer illiterate. I'll will get some restoration photos of the 68 Tempest Safari drag car uploaded soon. jmt455, sorry but I sold the engine a couple years back. Thanks again.
Welcome! Can't wait to see some "wheels up" pics! Our local drag strip was shut down recently - bought by the city to turn into a park. I've been wanting to take my wagon out to see what it will do in the quarter-mile. Guess I'll have to go to Heartland Park in Topeka.
Welcome aboard. Drag racing, Pontiacs and wagons...great combination! I too look forward to seeing some pics.
