Thanks everyone! Excited to be here. Herb- Love your car. Never heard of that model, but I love it. Dewey- Yes, as low as I can! So tell me Vets, how did this all get started, other than being a fan of the Station Wagon?
I was a hard core minitrucker and had my last one in a million pieces and soon found myself in need of a daily driver while my mini was being rebuilt. I heard my ex bosses mother in law saying she was going to give her car away to the Red Cross and donate the steel weight to them. I asked her if she wanted to sell the car to me. She agreed to sell it but would not take more than $50.00 because she liked me and I helped her daughter almost on a daily basis. I rolled open a garage door in a central Salt Lake neighborhood and love at first sight hit me like a steam roller. My ex wife said "you're not actually going to buy that thing are you?" I said "hell yes I am!" That was 1996 and my obsession with wagons was born, and the mini eventually went away in pieces because I wanted the garage space for The Shwag. Been in love with wagons of every make, model and year ever since.
Me too! Love the mini truck! Always loved Falcons as well and actually I was looking for a Ranchero, but came across this 2 door wagon and fell in love. I thought how good it would look sitting in the weeds, and I was right. I actually havent even driven it legally on the road. Just trying to get everything in good working condition before I register it. It will be ready for cruising the beatiful Texas sunsets come Spring!
I have always loved the Falcons as well and the 63-65 Nova wagon. When I found my wagon it was completely bone stock, right down to biased ply tires that made it drive somewhat squirely. I later found out that at some point someone (probably it's 82 year old previous owner) hit something hard enough to bend the left rear leaf spring enough that it was unwrapping from its bushing!!??? It had cocked the rear diff enough that the car was litterally riding somewhat sideways down the road After replacing the leafsprings with a set out of a 76 2wd pickup and taking the stack down to 2 springs and putting a Tundra overload on top to slam it and make it ride good at ride height, then putting 19 x 255 x 40 series tires on, she handled like a whole new car. When I had the allignment done I set the hydro's at the ride height I felt was still low, but would keep the highway patrol off me, you can let go of the wheel and she goes straight as an arrow, makes cruising so much more enjoyable.
