Wow, that conv is really nice Thomas. What's the little "eye" looking thing in the middle of the dashboard? Auto headlamp dimmer? The TNT option on the 440 was worth about 30 extra HP? Those pics are really staged cool, do them yourself?
little "eye" = Automatic Headlight Dimmer I think it names TNT but I`m not sure: "440 Dual" High Performance V-8 Package which includes Dual-Snorkel Air Cleaner and Dual Exhausts. I think it means 15HP more then standart (standart 350HP/Option 365HP) The pics are from a friend of mine, profi photograph. http://www.oldtimer-fotodesign.de/chrysler_imperial_crown_oldtimer_fotos_de_62.html

This is a great picture. It looks like it could be taken right from a 1968 vintage movie. These are big beautiful convertibles and every year only a few hundred Imperial convertibles were made. 1968 was the last year for an Imperial convertible. Considering how rare the Imperial convertible was, its amazing how many appeared in movies and on TV back in the day. One of the DVD's I got for Christmas was "Marlowe" a 1969 movie with James Garner as private detective Phillip Marlowe. One of the characters in the movie drove a 68 Imperial convertible. I recently saw an old Elvis Presley movie where Elvis drove a 68 Imperial convertible. The original 1968 version of the movie "The Big Bounce" with Ryan O'Neal, features a 68 Imperial convertible very prominantly, which suffers some damage as part of the movie plot. Then theres the poor 67 Imperial convertible that James Coburn destroys in the 1967 movie, "Point Blank". Years ago I built a 1/25 scale Imperial convertible model. I started with a reproduction promotional model of the JoHan 68 Imperial 2 door hardtop. I had a spare convertible top in the "up" position from an original 68 Fury convertible kit. So I cut the roof off the Imperial hardtop model (leaving the frame around the windshield intact) and attached the Fury convertible top and it was a perfect fit. Its one of my favorite old models and i still have it sitting on display on a shelf in my garage.
Schooly, That's a great wagon you have, I look forward to meeting both you and Thomas in May at the Street Nationals. David
Let's not forget the '62 (?) Imperial convertible in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World", when Terry Thomas is driving it, and gets rear-ended by Jonathan Winters in a delivery van! Ouch!
My Imperial looks at this moment not so good as on the pic. A few weeks ago a 68 Chrysler 300 Convertible hits me from behind , see the pics, alot of work to do. I have found all the parts at http://www.cbodies.com/
Sorry to hear about the damage. When I saw the photos, I thought the damage was done by the spiked heel foot in your avatar photo. I went out to the garage and climbed on the hood of the Dodge to get the model down off the shelf to take a few pictures. My Kodak camera does not do so well with close up photos of small subjects. Sorry for the blurry photos. With the black top and interior, the interior and top details kind of blend together in the photos. This is a 1/25 scale plastic model measuring about 9" long. JoHan originally made the 67 and 68 Imperial coupe model kits and promotional models. A company called X-EL reproduced the promos of the 68 Imperial coupe , 68 300 coupe and 68 300 convertible for several years through the 80's and 90's, which was the source for the Imperial coupe this started out as. I painted it a light blue metallic because the model was molded in a really ugly and incorrect non-metallic green. The convertible top was from an original 1968 release of the JoHan 68 Fury convertible kit. Since I had built the fury with the top down, the "up" top from the kit was left over for this project. There may be some resin model kit company that reproduces the 1/25 scale convertible top for the 67-68 Fury and 67-68 300. Original and reproduction 68 Imperial promotional models show up on e-bay fairly regularly. This one that I saw on E-bay appears to be an original http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-Chrysl...605?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5891598acd The reproduction promo models from the 80's or 90's should be much cheaper.
