Hi All - Just saying hi to the forum. '96 Roadmonster w/ 73K on her here. So far have done the water pump (holy moley!), starter, front disks, and new tires all around. Great body. Great interior. No rust. Standard white woody with blue interior. I'll be attacking the rear drums/brakes, AC, the carpet and a busted window actuator in the coming days/weeks/months. The usual problems... No leaks other than the left rear wheel well. Solved that (temporarily) with a twist drill. I'm guessing it's a window leak? Anyway, great forum. Thanks for having me. - Mike
Welcome to the forum. What part of NJ are you from? BTW the rot in the wheel wells and spare tire well is a B-Body problem. Most everyone has it.
Welcome to the madness Mike! That 96 model Roadie is a favorite of a lot of people here. Got any pics? and
Welcome Mike!! Let me be the first to say these guys are going to want some pics (me too actually). Hi and howdy from Utah!
Hey - I'll get some pics up shortly. I have to take them first. ha. Luckily I got to the heel water in time and got some stop rust and undercoating on the rusting spots. I'll get out there with the hose in the spring and find the leak. It's too cold now. Brr. A bit of history - I grew up in the way back seat of a '69 Country Squire. My dad got the Country Squire to keep my sister and me out of his hair. Born in '65. That thing rusted while you looked at it. Fun to watch the road go by through the holes in the floor. There aren't many of those around I'd bet. My other cars are a '01 Jeep Grand Cherokee (daily driver) and a '77 Triumph Spit - (funmobile). We are in Belle Mead, NJ. Central NJ just a bit up the road from Princeton. Looking forward to poking around the site and sharing info with you all. I also need a B-Body set of manuals. Maybe after Christmas...
Welcome njmike. You'll find alot of Roadie fans here. In fact, I dare say, everyone of us likes them alot, (though I can only speak for myself.) Glad there's another Jerseyite on board. I'm from Cranford.
Welcome! NJ Mike I AM NEW HERE ALL SO and have found It's a great place to find help, HAVE some fun and talk wagons, with great pepole and of course share I tkink you will enjoy the ride on this craZy train ,stay safe, stay cool
Welcome fellow B-body bubble wagon owner. Check the seam on the roof above the side rear window for any gaps that water can get in. Get used to removing and replacing the water pump if you have any Optispark ignition problems. Nice engine, dumb distributor location.
Welcome to the forum. As a fellow owner of a '96 white Roady wagon I can tell you, you've picked a great car. These are a lot of fun! Glad to help with any issues or advice. You may also want to join the GM Longroof Forum (http://gmlongroof.4umer.com/forum ), which deals just with these cars. I'm active on both this and that forum. Both this and that forum have been VERY helpful in getting my car in great shape. Lots of good folks in both places. Also I'm a Texan but went through high school in Basking Ridge New Jersey. Lots of good friends and good memories from up there. Again welcome! -Mike
Thanks all for the warm welcome. Well, there she is. New Cooper 235/75R15's all around. Properly inflated, they feel good to me. I know that's a big tire for the car but I like it. The black rubber door bumpers have been a challenge. I understand that the Red-backed double sided 3M sticky tape is the way to go. I've gone through several tubes of trim adhesive to no good result. Sticks to the rubber and not at all to the metal. Doh! If it gets warm enough this weekend, I might try tape on some of the loose pieces. Good prep work is obviously key. Also the woodgrain on the trim needs work. Really detracts from the looks when it's patchy like I have. Lots to do and so little time...
Well here she is. Plenty still to do. New P235/75R15's all around. It's a huge tire I know but properly inflated, I like them very much. Time to take her and the Triumph off the insurance. I don't have garage room to keep her indoors. What do you all think about waterproof car covers? I've read differing views for and against. Against mostly due to trapping moisture. Onward and upward...
