I remember Z's and my first christmas together. It was just a couple of weeks before christmas 2006. We were flat broke and didn't have a tree. We were just a roommate couple at the time (me in the living room and her in the bedroom). We both got woke up by a loud noise from outside. Some one in a pickup was dumping a fake tree in the dumpster of our apartment building. After quickly getting dressed, we scrambled outside and collected all the pieces and returned inside to the warmth. It was thread bare, missing branches, and horribly bent out of shape. We put it together the best we could and decorated it with purple lights, bats, spiders, and skeletons since Halloween decorations were all we had. It was quite the sight to behold and even though it was worn and old we loved it and slept on the floor in front of it every night till christmas... It may nt be much to some for us it was amazing nonetheless.

    What is your christmas miracle(s)?

Nice story,. but a bit short on the miracle side of things,

    I dislike christmas,....

I dislike being forced to participate thru peer pressure, media pressure, to give gifts at a certain time in a certain way,.

I prefer to spoil people with gifts spontaneously and generously when they are not expecting such a gesture.

I dislike the whole christmas pressure thing to buy gifts of a certain value for various different people in my life depending on their so called social importance to me.

I dislike opening a gift which is so far from what i,d ever choose for myself, and then having to fake a joyful attitude and demeanor and fawn over the gift as if it were the holy grail itself given to me, just to make the gift giver feel good,.

I dislike that certain people feel entitled to a gratuity which is factored into their yearly income.

I dislike the not knowing exactly how much i,m obligated to give to people , or what it is thats expected of me,.too much or too little,.. either way i lose.

Miracles are a nice name for a fable, or an unusual occurrence that benefits someone when they could really use some good fortune.

I truly dislike the january reckoning of the cost of christmas,.

    Christmas?.Miracles?
just like a turkey,. you can stuff it.

    Humbug.

X your memory of your first Xmas is sweet. It brought the two of you closer with out a lot of money spent. Which really proves it's what you already have together that makes these events special.
We have a similar Xmas experience that we recall from time to time. Thanks for sharing. :)

Phantom...I agree with most everything you wrote, but all through the year not just at Xmas. I believe Xmas, like most things are what you make it or allow it to be. Sorry your sad about this time of year...I hope you can find some part of this season to enjoy just for yourself regardless of the expectations of others. I liked your video it was fun to listen to...bouncey.

    HAPPY DECEMBER EVERYONE. :29:

    Thank you, Fannie.

I just want to say, again, that I'm not religious. However, this time of year is a beautiful one for Z and me. We love the cooler temperatures, well we love it when it is cold period, and all the lights are really pretty. We don't believe in santa. We do believe that gift giving is just like valentines days in that such things should not be restricted to just one day of the year, but rather year round, and at random without any pressure or obligation...

My sole intent with this post is that something really cool and fortunate had happened to us, I wanted to share it, and was hoping to here some other stories of things or times when something really great happened to some one else.

I remember when I was a little boy, I found it nearly impossible to fall asleep on Christmas Eve because I was just so excited. Yeah, it was partly because of all the presents I'd find under the tree in the morning, but it was also because it was such a joyful day. We'd always go down to my cousin's farm in the afternoon and see my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, which was always a wonderful time, whether it was Christmas or not. Plus, it was just the beginning of 10 days off from school; who wouldn't be joyous over that.
One of the most memorable Chritmas mornings took place when I was 9 or 10. I have two older brothers, one two years older, one four years older and one younger, 5 yrs my junior. As we came down the stairs, we looked over to the front door and saw three brand new red Columbia bicycles, one in my size, one in Walt's size and one in my oldest brother's John's size. (My little brother was too small for a two wheeler at the time.) Well. you can imagine our eyes almost popped out of our head! Eventhough we were still in our pajamas, our folks let us take them out in the cold NJ winter and take a quick run around the block to test them out. What fun, I gotta tell ya. Hey, it had to have made an impression; I remember as if it were yesterday even though it was almost 1/2 a century ago.
Nothing miraculous about it, but just a nice memory to share.
