I did some independent auditing of local GA Walmart Bros. prices and found the following:

Super Tech is 11.94(8.50 TX)
Penzoil is 15.97(9.50 TX)
QS is 13.97(9.50 TX)
Mobil is 13.97(under $11 TX)
Valvoline is 16.24(under $11 TX)
MC semi syn is 17.47 (11.50 TX)
Milk gallon 2.84
12 pk Miller Lite 9.97 (might be affected by local taxes)
3 yr group 65 Everstart battery is 89.94.
Reg gas 3.08 gallon(local avg-not Wally price)

How does you locale compare? Anyone want to weigh in?

So far I'm about local prices.

 

That 12 pack of Miller is $7.49 in Utah, but It's 3.2 beer which means because of the Mormons I have to drink twice as much, so it better be cheap. Here in Napa land the 5 quart jug of Napa oil (made by Valvoline) is $16.99 and a standard Napa oil filter (made by Wix) is about $3.29, which puts you out the door with tax for $21.60. Sounds like Wally world has the DIY deal to me.

 

The dealership where I work has a coupon for $10.99 5 quart oil and filter change. That is cheaper than I can walk into parts and buy the oil and filter as a employee.The reason is to try to get cars in to up sell service but you get your fair share of bargain shoppers for just the oil change and can't say I blame them, hard to pass up a $10.99 0il change and someone else doing it!

 

LOL tireman the dealer is just trying to get people into your dealership. I guess hoping they go in for a oil change and leave buying a car. STEALERships are known for add ons if its at all possible I stay away from them

 

or atleast trying to get them in for some other services with shop rate at $105 per hr.

 

I find this comment offensive. The word is DEALERSHIP!!! If you choose not to frequent a dealership, that is your choice. A DEALERSHIP, is nothing more than a store where cars are sold and serviced. No one forces you to buy a car, or have your car serviced at the DEALERSHIP. They don't STEAL anything from anyone. Last I checked, the sales people don't use guns to sell anything!!!!!!!!!!

 

I have worked as a dealership technician for the past 6 years and try not to take it personal but thanks Junk for sticking up for dealerships and it is just like anything you have one happy customer and they may tell someone but you get one unhappy customer and they tell 50 people

 

You guys are right. I've never worked for a dealership but in all businesses there are way more people complaining compared to the few who brag.

 

Now, about these motor oil prices......

 

Sounds right about in line with Michigan prices, at least for the oil and milk. A filter is about $3.50. So I couldn't beat the Advance price directly at WM.

But if it's a mail in rebate, figure the 44 cent stamp. Then a trip to the bank to cash the check which is another 1/3 gallon of gas. Then the fact that the nearest Advance is a 50 mile round trip out of my way, so there's another couple gallons of gas. WM is 1/2 mile out of my way.

I've only bought alcohol once or twice ever and the final price at the checkout is pretty shocking due to taxes. Pretty sure that beer would be about $5 more sticker price, plus the tax. Only thing I've seen for near $10 is Busch, and that probably explains why I see more Busch cans and cases on the side of the road than anything else. Also last time I saw gas at $3.08 was a year ago which was downstate. When gas is going up, everybody is about the same. But when it's going down, downstate will lower prices and up north will not lower them for a long time, like several months. This has always been the case. Many times I've found it to be 25 to 50 cents less just from going 100 miles downstate. Since I've gotta go downstate every 2 weeks anyway, I've seriously thought about getting an extra tank or fuel cell and never have to be robbed by up north stations again. I can build one using leftover stainless steel for almost nothing at work.

Driving in general is expensive here. The governor has a plan in the works to raise the yearly registration by $120 a year. My old cars are currently $50 to $70 a year. That'll more than triple the fee for the Celebrity and 6000. Newer and/or heavier vehicles are currently well over $100. Can't just transfer plates very easily from a summer to winter car because they've got zoning officers patrolling to make sure all vehicles are licensed at all times or they'll fine you. Even in the sticks when you can't even see your neighbors. Then with the no-fault, we have some of the highest insurance rates in the country. My mom moved from big city, high crime, hurricane ridden Florida to the Michigan sticks, and her insurance tripled. Then we've got officially the 2nd worst roads in the country, snowballing vehicle damage every time you drive. Only roads worse they say are Pennsylvania. 2nd highest rate of car-deer collisions in the country, only one higher is West Virginia. Nearly everyone you know has totaled a car to a deer at some point in their life. Road crews that leave roads unplowed and highways a sheet of ice for days on end. Public transportation is basically nonexistent, and everything is far apart, so you're pretty much stuck needing a car.

One good thing we've got is the good old style junkyard that I posted about before.

Sorry guess I got a little off track. But the oil deal is nice for those who could truly take advantage of it.

 

I thought the oil was supposed to be changed whenever the engine was rebuilt ! Ho-ho-hoe!

 

Any good oil here is $25-30 for the 5 litre,(almost 5 quart) size, plus the cost of the filter and grease. Meineke charges $30 to do the work and dispose of the old oil. Of course, I use Castrol Syntec 5W50, so it is more expensive.
