I have not seen this car in person, but am working with the guy via telephone and email before travelling to look at it.

    Surprise number one
    a "carpeted dash"

ever see one of these on a 1995 Roadmaster Estate

Nope, I've never seen a factory carpeted dash on a Roadmaster like that, if that's what it's supposed to be.
Those huge dashes reflect in the windshield and a lot of people get the carpeted dash covers to cut down on the reflections, maybe somebody just carpeted the dash?
If you wear polarized shades it's no problem.:)

It's probably a privately-done job to cover up cracks in the cover. Just read a post over on the Impala SS Forum where a guy upholstered his Caddy Fleetwood dash with vinyl to cover the cracks.

i dont know why someone would spend the $$ to cover the dash with carpet to hide damage. its surprisingly easy to swap out the pad

I am guessing he spent like $10 to do that, and it covered all the cracks. A Dash Pad cover runs $100 plus, and it is getting harder to find a dash that is in decent shape for those cars.
