After looking for almost five years for a rust-free quad-round wagon, Jeremy Allen (a.k.a. IBGPN in the world of interwebs) found this beauty on the list that Craig started. It’s a 1978 245DL which he purchased from the original owner. With the car Jeremy even received the original sales ticket where the first owner paid an extra $300 to get an AM/FM radio installed, all the manuals, shop books, and a notebook that he has written every date on everything he has ever done to the car including oil changes.



All IBGPN wanted was a nice, daily drivable, low, and slow kayak hauler. He did the usual lowering, make wheels fit under it, changed the interior to all black, and preventive maintenance of a 330,000 original motor. Jeremy loved the patina on the hood so he didn’t know how he was going to keep it while painting the rest of the car. That is where the wood-grain came into play. It was done mostly because he couldn’t find anyone that thought they could blend the single stage paint enough to be able to clear the hood and roof. It’s a 3M pattern that he came up with that matches with the color of the car pretty well.

The Win is strong with this one.

 

Im a carpenter and the grain on that woodgrain is the hugest I've ever seen. Giant Sequoaia has a closer grain so not that, that looks like yellow pine to the 10th power.
Maybe it's from the legendary Tree of Life?

 

Looks more like a psychedelic graphic, not woodgrain.

 

Wooden Brick gives me an idea. Do that woodgrain treatment in vinyl on the lower 2/3 of a wagon, not in brown and tan wood-colored hues, but in shades of gray or maroon or blue to match the interior, and then go black on the top third. And not on a Volvo, although it's a great idea I just don't do Volvos, I'm thinking something equally as boxy, like a '77-'79 Impala wagon or an '80s Custom Cruiser.

 

I really like your idea. I would even do it on a Volvo. But I'm a Mercury guy.
