Good day all. I have a question. Does anyone know what the easiest way to repair a selector spring. have little pieces of broken springs falling out on the floor board and the selector lever is getting real "floppy". i can now pull the shifter all of the way up to the steering wheel. even if there are just pics of taking the bowl apart. have repaired many loose columns even made my old s-15 have telescopic steering from a corvette. just never had to go past those 4 pesky torques bolts that come loose. i have the lock ring depressor and pivot pin puller and all the special torques bolt sockets.

I could be wrong. I was once before! :naughty: Seems to me all you do is punch out the roll pin, slide out the shifter, slip a new spring on the tab sticking up, and reassemble. But, I am only going by other GM cars I've played with.;)

You don't have to take the column apart according to what I've read for the problem on my car, haven't tried it myself yet.

You may have to take a piece of flat thin steel and push down the spring so you can slide the end of the shifter lever by it then pull the piece of steel out or it can hang up on the spring sometimes, shows the technique in the factory service manuals.
I need to do the same thing on my '92 Custom Cruiser, the shifter lever hits the ignition switch if you pull it too far back and scratches the lever paint. I have no problem with it, my wife just can't remember no matter how many times I tell her not to do it and pulls it too far back every time she drives the car.

well thanks for the help everyone.. just wanted to say got it done but did have to take the column apart down to those four pesky torques bolts. had to be done to get about 2 and 1/2 coils of spring out. but got to grease everything while i was in there and tighten up the bolts inside while i was there feels great and tight now thanks.
