Spend some time thinking about that and then ask yourself if you really want to spend 3 hours trapped in a car with 7 college age girls yapping away incessantly the entire time.

Good point. On the upside, the nonstop talking would probably help me stay awake. Plus, I can overlook quite a bit for a good-looking girl.

Unless their jibber jabber hypnotizes you or makes you nauseous. My wife doesn't talk to people, call people on the phone or anything. But when you get her together with her sisters and her mom or any of the females in her family and you don't exist at all.
Then you get a headache because it's like being in a tornado only in a tornado you have a chance of it ending.

-------------A bunch of college aged females in one station wagon for three hours? Picture scraping your finger nails across an old fashioned chaulk board for three hours! I'd give them the wagon after 1/2 hour and take a bus or get a motel room!-----------Boys only. At least you can talk sports, cars, girls, or listen to them snore!:taz: And no way are we banning Country music! Opree, hip hop and Rap yes!:tiphat:

First leg of the trip down!

All things considered, it went pretty well. I had a total of 6 passengers, 3 guys and 3 girls. The weather was great, so I kept the windows rolled down for most of the trip. Due to the noise from the wind, there wasn't much conversation. Most people slept for the majority of the trip.

On the downside, I was a nervous wreck the whole time thinking about the "what if's." My engine hasn't been running smoothly lately, and I was paranoid that I was going to break down somewhere with 6 pissed off passengers to accommodate. I watched my gauges like a hawk, which is a good thing because by the last 60 miles I was low on oil. I added two quarts once I got to the dropoff location. The Griswold can definitely burn some oil. I don't know if I have the nerves to do this again in the future. I don't trust my car enough to say that I would drive it anywhere.

Anyway, the return trip is on Sunday night, and I'm bringing back a futon plus 4 passengers. It should be interesting. Once I get back home (assuming I make it back okay), I'll be posting an update. Wish me luck!

Well, I would have taken pictures, but it seemed awkward to ask complete strangers to pose for photos. Plus, I don't have a digital camera....lol.

Anyway, I made it back home safe and sound. The return trip was much easier with only 3 passengers. I strapped down my full-sized futon mattress and frame to the roof rack, loaded up the wagon, and hit the road. I checked the straps on the roof periodically, and it didn't budge the entire trip! Killed my gas mileage, though.

In retrospect, I'm not sure if I will do this again in the future. I trust my wagon to get me where I need to go, but it's a different ball game when a car full of passengers are depending on me. The thought of breaking down and having to somehow accommodate all those people was very stressful to me. Maybe if I get the Griswold running a little better I will have more confidence. We'll see....

Glad the trip went well. Apparently you made three passangers walk back???????? Or they didn't like your driving? Pictures would help with questions like these. By the way, young people are usually more aerodynamic than futons. I would have strapped a couple of them on the roof rack and put the futon and mattress inside.:rofl2: Again, pictures would have been great if you did this!:camera: ---------I'm not done yet!it seemed awkward to ask complete strangers to pose for photos. Plus, I don't have a digital camera....lol.---------No one should be without a cheap digital camera. We go to car and bike events, beaches and amusements, scenic spots, many other places. I always awkwardly ask strangers to pose! Besides you could have snuck pictures with your cell cam. Others do! Don't you larn enything in skhool?

Don't worry, I didn't lose anyone......haha. I only had 3 round-trip passengers; the other 3 were one-way. And yeah, I know I need to get a digital camera. The next time a cheap one pops up on Craigslist, I'll jump on it.

Thanks for telling us about your adventure. It's all a part of being station wagon lovers. They were built for people to use and enjoy. You are doing just that!----------About the nervous part. I've pulled many RV's and other trailers. It still causes more worries than without a trailer. Hauling people is much the same.
